Well I keep seeing the engine covers for newer corvettes that are the black w/ red lettering and they look so slick. does a company make those for the C4, L98? My roomate drives a Dodge SRT-10 truck and when you open the hood the red engine w/ "VIPER" just hits you in the face and everyone's jaw drops. why can't my tiny 350 have the same effect? the viper engine in that truck is dwarfed so it doesnt even look that huge but the vette engine is cramed in so it looks huge.
Websites anyone? or has anyone tried modifying a cover from another year vette to fit?
I have not come across those covers over the years. L98 Corvettes have few choices for upgrading the looks of their valve covers like the newer models. You can find polished aluminum covers as replacements for L98's but to the best of my knowledge, that is about it.
Funny - Car & Driver just finished bashing engine covers - particularly Hyundai for molding in some fake runners to make the engine - well look like an engine. Granted, if I had an LS motor and some turtles - coils - on the valve covers, you might want something to cover that up. I'd clean up what you got or have it reconditioned, but I wouldn't cover up anything. You can check out the online catalog at Street & Performance - www.hotrodlane.cc - for the shiny stuff that the Rodder's like or even call them for ideas.
I own an LT1 with plastic fuel rail covers and a hunk of square intake. Very plain and not very cool.
On the other hand, I think the L-98 had one of the coolest looking engines with the intake runners designed the way they are. Look at the guys here with the polished L-98s they are bad looking.
I saw an 56 corvette Resto-Rod with a polished L-98 in it and people walking by at the show could not believe how cool that supercharged 56 Vette was. (no supercharger)
