Matte Black Makeover Progress (not for dialup)
Didn't want to hijack the original matte black thread any more, so I'll start this one... I decided to paint my '85 carbed Vette matte black as it's kind of a "no nonsense" look I'm going after. What follows is the "cliff notes" version of the job.
Here's the way it was when I bought it. We called it the "Schlep Vette" (for obvious reasons).. pretty tired looking, sagging/warped bumper covers, and the right rear quarter panel had some UPS truck damage.

Closeup of the damage area:

Cut in a new piece from a parts car and bonded it in place with SMC panel-bond adhesive:

Rear of repaired section (used matting for strength..this'll never come off!):

Roughed in bodywork:

In primer, waiting for final block sanding:

Rest of the body:

And the hood (with Greenwood/MoldKraft C4R scoop):

Final paint and reassembly should be complete next week... just in time for it's first show (no pressure, right?). You don't have to disassemble a car for a decent paint job, but it certainly helps to do so for great results.

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
I'm anxious to see the results.
Besides.. I like using original GS emblems on my "ratty old '85" (ought to drive the diaper wipers crazy!)
