It's just a matter of taking apart, cleaning up, replacing with new and putting back together. I usually take longer than most to do this, so anyone can do it, IMHO.
TA: That's an awesome 1/4 mile time with stock heads/cam in a '91. I hope to get there someday.
I ordered the Shift Console from thepartsladi on ebay. It cost $101 shipped. Search ebay stores. It is the non-sticky lightly rubber coated type.
Yes, I got it from Redline Goods who advertises regularly here. You can pick pretty much everything--stripes/no stripes, the boot color, two tone, but think about the color of thread, too. There are plenty of nice samples on Redline's thread and website to help you choose.
By the way, I removed the upper Bezel Cover, also. I did this to remove the Automatic Climate Control because I was having a few intermittent buttons. It was easy to do since I had the Shift console out. If anyone wants pics of that, I'll add them.
Good evening, I need to or find where the light for the air/heat etc, is on my daughters 1994 vette, at night she has no light for the air or heat, is the light behind that benzel cover????? would it be easy to get to. tks, Don
I purchased a new center console on e-bay about 2 years ago that I thought was like the OEM however it has badly deterioriated to the point where most of the finish is sticky to the touch. Does anyone know if this means that I just got a bad knockoff, or what?
FYI - may car stays in the garage and proably hasn't seen more than 100 hours of daylight in the two years since I put the new part on.
Have others bought this part from thepartsladi on ebay and been very happy with the quality/integrity of the rubber finish?
We bought ours from 'thepartsladi' over a year ago and it's still perfect and not sticky at all. They stated this in the sale notice and also when we e-mailed them. We are very happy with it.
I bought a couple center console replacements (one from Corvette Central and one from ebay) for my 94 6spd and both had an odd texture: almost tacky (as in sticky) rather than smooth like the original.
After receiving the first one and seeing it's finish, I decided to paint it. While installing it, I accidentally broke the ashtray/cup holder door mount off. So, I'll be working on the second.
In the mean time, I peeled off the outer layer of rubber coating from the OEM, which made it look a lot better.
Thanks for the information on the bolt clips. Getting the originals off was a pain.
