The last 8 digits of the VIN are stamped on the frame rail just below the battery. It will be on the vertical portion of the frame rail facing the tire.
You have to remove the rear portion of the lower fenderwell to see it.

Thanks cruiser, I checked on my 84 and couldnt find it, (I have a bare frame) could it have been moved around various model years?
Sorry to bring up a thread from really dead, but for the past 7 years in Japan I have been running into a problem showing a frame VIN during inspection.
My car is a 95 and they won’t accept the VIN under the battery tray on the frame since only the last 8 digits.
This is something that normal people could care less
about and only vehicles exported have this issue I imagine.
Just throwing a Hail Mary to see if anyone has physically seen it and on what year. I get held up for hours until they give up.
Thank you,
Craig
You have the complete VIN in the windshield. Why do you need to supply another? Explain that it's a 'derivative' used for theft ID etc. It should be actually 9 digits with the first being the GM car division and then the 8 of the car. Explain that the derivative is used on major components engine, transmission and a couple others for just the ID verification. I can't imagine you having this issue. What about other US builds exported to Japan?

Please disregard. I got my answer and photos I needed from Mark at Mirrock Corvette. Germany has the same issue for imported vehicles.
