yeah i picked up the 92-96 $20 manual at the local auto store when my water pump went out.
It had instructions and pictures of the L98 and probably other engines which just made the job harder following it.(i have LT1)
I ended up just taking off what was in my way instead of following the book which was telling me to take off fuel lines and lots of other crap. Good thing it wasn't a harder job or i'd be screwed. I need to find the helms manual for cheap somewhere.

Well how about an 89 FSM. Don't they all have the L98? I want something more than the chilton crud (I've got that one). I know it doesn't have the ECM setup, but I'm looking for more general engine info.
I have a 90 C-4, and have the factory manual. It has info on both the L-98 and the L-T5 engine. All the information in the book covers both engines. Almost everything else is the same. You just have to deal with the manual the way it is.
I have the opposite problem...A few times I turned a page and was studying "vin 8" instead of "J". Oh, well...Gotz ta be kerful, I guess.
I do industrial training programs, but in spite of some issues I have with the layout of the FSM, the intertwining of the VIN 8 and VIN J is not one of the more serious ones.
I've gotten to a point when I find certain tidbits of info I write the page number down on the blank back page. Its so frustrating when all you need is a torque spec and you forgot what page it was on and you search for 30 minutes. Then finally you say "40 ftlbs should be good". It has saved me alot of money though.
My Helm FSM has the motor info separated into sections, vin J & vin 8. Even the section on emissions & driveability are separated by engine vin. I just bookmarked the "J" sections so that I have a fast way of getting to the info I ned....used those post-it stickys, they work pretty well & last a while...not forever if they get dirty.
My 89 FSM is specific to the L98 engine as I have not seen any mention of other engines in the manual. Suggest you find a used 89 manual as it is a very good reference.

That's the way all of the 90-95 FSM's are set up. The LT5 motor in the ZR-1 was available from 90 thru 95 and sections had to be included for that motor. After all, the factory service manuals were really designed for dealership service techs, not consumers.
