I plan to install two 10 in sub woofers in the back of my C4 couple. I would like any useful feed back on box styles & positioning as far as which is the best way to face the woofers for the best possible sound. Also wondering if anyone has got great sound with the targa mounted in the back hatch in its place? The amp is about 1 1/2 ft long by 1 ft wide...need cool ideas or pics if possible with simular sound systems please. The system will be all Kenwood excelon...just an FYI. Thank you.
That's a nice installation. I made a very plain 1 cu ft box for 2 8"s that I had in the back of my old '85 for a long time. It sounded great, but took up a lot of space. If I did it again, I'd do one of those installations in the storage bins. But.... I'd hate to loose those, too.
Oh, and the cool thing about a regular box is I could face the drivers forward, directly at me, or lay it on it's back and face them up. Then they would reflect off the hatch. I liked the sound better with them facing up, but this was with them all the way in the back. If you just mounted them in the storage bins facing up, it would be a different sound. Maybe not bad, but different.
Thank you both for your feed back...two great ideas. The smaller box to face up with better sound & face straight toward the driver with the targa top in place. I am really leaning towards raising the whole floor simular to that picture. I am really wondering how much the sound changed with the targa in its place with that big box...I see the woofers have an angle...very smart plan...I would think the angle would save alot of the sound even with the targa in the hatch. By the way that is a very nice job.
I do not have a picture, but I built my box with the woofer straight up and offset to the drivers side with the amp on the passenger side. With a small hatchback, I think 1 sub is definately enough. I will try to get some pictures for you, but it's all in storage right now. With the targa off it sounds good too, but there's so much road noise anyways, are you really concerned about sound quality with the targa off?
