I waslooking for the one on my 96 yesterday and couldnt find it. Only thing i could think of was that it is hidden behind the carpeted cover below the steering wheel. Ill be watching for info on this as well...

on my 96, its not behind any carpeting or anything. Just look down around where your right knee would be while driving, and it should just be chilling there. You'll have to be outside the car bent down pretty low, but you should be able to see it no problem. It swivels up and down, for easy access and to get out of the way.

I'm not sure if OBD I is in the same location or not, but should be similar I suppose...

On mine the bracket is on the panel beneath the steering wheel at the very back, right before you get to the pedals. Of course, on mine, someone in the past had taken it off the bracket and decided not to put it back, so it was tucked up under the dash. It might be worth removing that panel and taking a look.
