so you might be in the jan 1 group? Hope not.... the let one go in our group today at lunch. There's only 5 of us (now 4) so that was not a comfortable situation.
Yep, we went through that here a couple of weeeks ago. Lost 25% out of my office. May be more coming in January. Today we got an e-mail a little while ago that are wages are now frozen at least until July. Santa won't be bring much presents this year.
I am in the process of selling my Vette, i'm posting this topic on the post after i'm done here, because of the economic slow down in the semiconductor industry which happens to be my only source of income. Luckily my upper management has put us on furloughs, yeah those really help out on car payments, so that we can keep our jobs. I look forward to having Christmas week off, but not without pay. I hope you all keep your jobs and don't have to sell your Vette like me. I need to have money in my savings acount again for another furlough or who knows what. It is really kiling me to do this, but I have faith, and they won't stop making Vettes. It took me a long time to find my car, only to sell it months after I bought it. Good luck to you all and have faith in our economy.
Unfortunately with the state of the economy, most employers are going with work force reductions. I have seen this this for 3 straight years at my place of work, with no regard whatsoever for the long term employees with 20+ years with the Company. Hang in there guys...I'm sure there are brighter days ahead.
I know of several open positions in the Washington DC area. Acoustical Engineering & Aviation Engineering. The first requires programming experience (Fortran preferably) and the second requires more systems / networking and microlanguage (for chips). Drop me an e-mail off-line if you're interested. I'm sorry too to read of this bad news. I've been "laid off" myself
over the years and it throws one's life into turmoil for sure. For
those willing to relocate -- and I don't work for the Texas Bureau
of Employment or anything, but Lockeed/Martin was just awarded
a multibillion dollar areospace contract for their Ft Worth facility
and they've been saying that there will be 30 years of guaranteed
work. If you can adjust to a move here, you all might consider it.
Hope all works out well for you in any event, Lone Star Corvettes
would welcome all of you.
Guys, I can relate to all of your posts about losing jobs. I have been there and done that. A few years ago I lost my job, my wife, and a 1/2 million dollar home, all at the same time. Ended up renting a bedroom from a friend. Had lots of time to reflect on inner self; didn't have a pot to pee in; was at the very bottom; considered suicide; the whole deal. Ended up turning to attending church; met my current wife there; got another good job. Now after several years have a wonderful wife, money in the bank, and a good job.
I learned to never take a paycheck for granted. Life can deal us a bad hand from time to time, but with a little faith, our low points in life always seem to turnaround for the better. Keep the faith.
The grim reaper is stalking. I'm safe as long as people need training but we lost alot of people throughout the company. Sad stuff. Good luck to all and be reassured that due to the Fed cuts, relief is on the way. Its kinda like standing down river from hoover dam when it busts. You know its coming and it will hit but you don't know when. Financial advise of the day: Don't fight the fed.

Black Friday was the best thing that ever happened to me, it didn't seem that way at first though. I was caught in a 50% reduction after being there ten years. It was a government job that took a hit from a taxpayer revolt. I enjoyed having two years off to play, after working for 25 years without much for vacations. I had some money saved and finaly got a decent job working instead of directing, I had forgotten how much I enjoyed working with my hands. I now have no money, no wife (it's OK, she wasn't a good one) and no worries. I still have the two Corvettes, a good Girlfriend, my two youngest kids are still home, still own the house. Life is much better now! Just don't forget "It's always darkest just before dawn". If you have to sell things to survive, it's OK. You can always get another later. And who knows, the next job may be better, if it's not to your liking, there are other jobs. Don't think of it as a carrer, jobs now days don't last that long. It's just a job!
Keep your chin up guys. I got a layoff notice 10 years ago. Was out of work for 12 plus months. But with a good wife by myside and a little faith I found another job. Been there ever since. When one door closes another opens. Hang in there and good luck.
Joe Smith started the day early having set his alarm clock (MADE IN JAPAN)for 6 a. m.
While his coffeepot MADE IN CHINA) was perking, he shaved with his electric razor (MADE IN HONG KONG).
He put on a dress shirt (MADE IN SRI LANKA), designer jeans (MADE IN SINGAPORE) and tennis shoes (MADE IN KOREA).
After cooking his breakfast in his new electric skillet (MADE IN INDIA), he sat down with his calculator (MADE IN MEXICO) to see how much he could spend today.
After setting his watch (MADE IN TAIWAN) to the radio (MADE IN INDIA) he got in his car (MADE IN GERMANY) and continued his search for a good paying AMERICAN JOB.
At the end of yet another discouraging and fruitless day, Joe decided to relax for a while. He put on his sandals (MADE IN BRAZIL), poured himself a glass of wine (MADE IN FRANCE) and turned on his TV
(MADE IN INDONESIA), and then wondered why he can't find a good paying job in..... AMERICA.....
Sorry to hear of all the lay offs :(
I was a casualty myself on August 3 of this year. Managed to get re-employed in mid October, quit that job after a day and a half (district manager was a dick) and went to work as a parts clerk at a material handling business.
Although I'm making a little less money than before, I'm working a 40 hr week (instead of 50), have every Saturday off, and get benefits. Plus I love the job which in itself makes the money difference seem insignificant.
If you do get furloughed, don't panic like I did. Everything I could find a Wal-Mart receipt for, I returned :D
Be sure to visit your local unemployment office and get registered.
Best of luck to all of you
