I've been screwed around on my 95 at the parts houses. Autozone and NAPA both sold me the wrong size belt on more than one occasion. The belt sizes they have in their computer is shorter than the actual belt that fit my 95. I'm not sure if the same sizes fit all LT1 C4's but my 95 took a 67.5" belt.

Bought one at the dealer last week. Paid in the range of $45-50. Was an easy fix once I fabricated a big wrench extender for my 5/8" wrench. Eric

Do tell about your extension to make it easier. Easier the better right.

Cut a section of pipe about 2 1/2 feet long. You end up holding the tensioner for a long time, but are limited on extension length by the hood. A second set of hands comes in handy. If you let the tensioner go without the belt on it cycles counterclockwise to far to get the wrench and extender back on (rad hose in the way). I fed the belt around the A/C compressor last. If you try to feed it around the alternator it makes to drastic of a curve change just below. The wrench goes on the center of the tensioner pully unlike L98s that have a 1/2 socket hole in the arm. Eric

Oh yeah be sure to use the box end of the wrench. More stable hold and you need the slight bend the box side has to clear the other pullys.

Be careful not to damage the temp sensor when you lift up on the tensioner. Don't ask how I know this.

Sounds like a typical C4 repair, you go to fix a problem, break something in the process, then end up fixing two problems.

I had the same problem on my '89. Installed a new belt and tensioner, only to have the alternator pulley fall apart a few months later. Turned out the belt - from GM - was too short and so caused too much tension. The replacement belt had the same part number stamped on it as the short one but was a couple of inches longer.

It was short enough to cause too much tension but not so short that I couldn't get it on.

I used a 3/8" breaker bar and a short piece of pipe. If I remember right there was a clearance issue with a 1/2" bar and socket. Not all LT1 belts are the same. Mine happened to be one of those double sided belts. I went all over town trying to find one but all they carried was the single sided belt. I had to get one from the Chevy dealer for $60.

yeah mines falling apart too. I bought a belt about 3 months ago thinking i was going to replace it but haven't gotten around to fixing it.

It's sitting under my drivers seat with the proper wrench just in case.

Now that i hear it could be the wrong size i better go do it sometime soon.
But it's pretty easy. Just get your old one off, route the new one. then hold the tensioner to get the last part on.

When I blew my belt 2 months ago It took the temp sensor with it. I couldnt get my tensioner to budge so I had to have a mechanic do it... But I did get the correct size Gatorback belt from an Autozone.

RRTVETTE, what was the part number of the correct belt for your 95 and where did you end up buying it? Someday I'll have to replace the belt on my 95 so that info would be nice to have. thanks

Not a tough job, the second time you could do it in 20 mins. Use a 1/2 breaker bar, extend with pipe if necessary, reach in from the passenger side, breaker bar in right hand, pull the tensioner towards you and slip off the belt with your left hand, take to parts store and match. Piece of cake.

I got mine from NAPA. If you go to their online store and look up a serp belt for the 95 LT1...it brings up this number (6K670). If you notice this is a 67" belt (6K670). I had to get the 6K675 to fit my 95.

Bought mine from the Chevy dealer part number: GM 10230259. This also matches the number of the belt I took off which was the original belt. Eric

The 93 could have the double sided serp belt, the early cars came with them. There is a TCB out there telling you how to change it over to the newer single sided belt.
