Default Problem with a 94

My first post and I got a question for anyone who can help here. I own a 94 automatic with 80,000 miles now. Just past day its been running very rough and it seems that one, possibly two cylinders are out of commision on the drivers side of the block due to it idling very rough and poping exhaust only on the drivers side. Gonna run dry gas through it tonight but anyone have past experience wether it could just be the one or two spark plugs or is it more likely the fuel injectors. Just please no one tell me its the optispark. Thanks all.

Welcome. Is the Service Engine Soon light on? Have you pulled the plugs to look at their condition?

I would start by pulling the codes in the PCM (ground terminal 4 and 12 on the ALDL under the driver side dash). Jot down what shows up on the speedo area and post it here.

I'd look at it at night with the hood up, engine running, see if any plug wires are sparking. I'd look for the cheap easy things before spending big money.
Good luck, and Welcome!

Remember dont hose off the engine because the optispark is not vented on a 94 (they vented them on the 96) If you must wash the engine get it hot and keep it running while you quickly hose it off to evaporate any moisture before it ruins the OS.

Never sprayed the engine down but i know the optispark does have its problems especially earlier on. Gonna take a look at the plugs tomorrow in the day but nothin seems to mis-sparking or leaking anywhere else that i can see. Ill post later. Thanks.

Take your trusty paperclip and scan it for codes. A bad opti will set a code. I have to be carefull wording this so I am not the one to say bad opti. The drivers side plug wires go under the PS pump, so when you go out in the dark tonite to look for arcing/sparking wires look there very carefully. Of course you can always drip some water on the exhaust manifold to check for a cold/dead cylinder.

Hope this helps.
