I continue to hear and read about how people have had their vette's stolen by someone drilling a hole and draining the battery ,which of course disable's the factory or after market alarm. I have seen several different battery "shields" that cover the battery. Has anyone had there vette stolen before?
nah, the kids have moved on years ago. they like the toyotas, acuras, and the nissans, or maybe a C6. C4? they'd steal one but still wouldn't be able to give it away.
Yeah, used to be real popular. Smart thieves figured out they couldn't beat the VATS though, and usually leave the Vettes and Camaros alone. (unless they tow them) Use to buy theft recovery cars with Vats and broken columns, and always thought hmmm.
I had a self contained back up alarm on my truck. its a small , round made of a hard plastic and will last about 4yrs once its dead toss it and get another one.
It wires somehow to the car, and what they use to do is,pry up the hood and cut the wires to the battery to disable the whatever alarm you had installed.
Well as soon as you cut power to the car either by cutting the wires or dissconnecting the battery, this little baseball size alarm starts screaming. Whenever I would take my truck in to get serviced I would get a call because they couldnt figure out why the alarm would sound when you cut the power to the car.
now this doesnt fix the problem of having to replace the battery if someone decides to put a hole in it. but it should keep someone from trying to steal it, if they cant turn it off. Now i guess if you have issue with your battery getting drained you probably dont want to add one of these.

Okay... indulge Mr. Wizard.
With a swiss-cheese battery, how do ya' start the car?

Where would this be obtained. How difficult is it to install? I think of
the possibility of my Vette being stolen, and its frightening. It has been broken into twice.

Exactly!
If they want your car, they are going to put it on a roll-back and drive off with it. All the battery protection in the world won't prevent that.
If they're gonna destroy the battery they'll have to tow it, so why would they waste the time of messing with the battery and just tow it from the start
I have seen the battery shields available from the usual Corvette vendors. I agree with everyone else. Who is going to steal a car with a dead battery? Car alarms MAY stop the occasional joy riders, or deter a thief from taking something inside the car. Alarms, "The Club" or whatever are just deterents to keep your car safe. If a thief sees one of these devises on your car he will just move on to a car without an alarm because it is easier, therefor you car is saved. But if a professional thief wants your car for whatever reason, IT WILL BE GONE!

I had mine installed at the same time I had the aftermarket alarm installed.
