Default Trans bolt question

I'm gonna start working on my C4 again. I have 5 of the 6 transmission bolts to the engine in but there is one on the top that is a bitch to get to. I think someone mentioned a special tool that would make the job much easier, anyone know what I'm talking about or have a link to the tool.

Thanks for your help.

You are referring to the engine to trans bell housing bolts ?..

do you have the top end off ?

I usually use a long extention with either a flex socket on the end. If the heads are off.. you can or might be able to get to them from the top using some wrench. But the engine is tight on top...

Heads are on. I took it off with a socket with many wobble extensions on it. I might be able to put it on the same way, but it would sure help if there was a better tool for that job.

For what its worth, I went to a flea market, bought two 36 inch 3/8extensions. With them I can go in over the trans. Makes the upper bolts kinda easy. Yes the extensions are Chinese and likely will not stand much torque but they were cheap and they work.

Pull the prop shaft and drop the rear of the transmission a little and it makes it easy.

Wrap some maskging tap around the wobble joints. It gives you a little better control. You can even use a little tape to hold the bolt in the socket.

I was duped by a trans at a bachelor party and it was able to reach all my bolts and I didn’t complain.

You may be doing something wrong.

I usually access the top transmission bolts from the engine compartment with a wrench. Out of an abundance of caution I remove the wiper motor and the distributor so that they are not damaged when the transmission is lowered. This also allows easier access to the top bellhousing bolts from the engine bay.
