Default Shocks...daily driver

My Monroe replacement shocks are gone and it is time to replace. I see that Bilstein HD seem to be preferred. I am looking for a decent ride, preferable so I don't shake my teeth out. Do any of you daily drivers have a shock preference?

Thanks again,
Ric

I have KYB shocks on my 95. The ride is softer as compared to the billsteins. I do not race my car so these shocks are great. If you race the car then I would go with the billsteins. For your information the billsteins that originally came with our cars are only available at the dealer. They are softer than the billstein HD. I spoke to a rep at billstein and he said they only sell them to the new car dealers. They are different then the 2 models that are available at most local parts store. The dealer price is $$$$$$. Kyb are half the price of bilsteins.

I've said it many times before and I need to say it again. Do a search and ye shall find what thou hath been looking for. Seriously, the subject of shocks has been talked about so many times here before that I guarantee if you search on shocks, you'll find everything you need to know how to make a sound, intelligent decision. Many people here go with Bilsteins. If money is a factor, go with KYB. You can't beat that kind of quality for the money. If money isn't a problem, you can get Konis. There are others even more expensive, but in my opinion, a waste of money when so many more less expensive shocks exist that have incredible quality.

I hate to hijack, which in this case as with most others directly proceeds a hijacking...

This is General Discussion. It's an interesting topic. If everyone searched, there wouldn't be very many posts. Is that the desired result?

I'm not trying to be a wise guy, just saying, if the posting activity at a site isn't brisk, it's not very interesting to visit.

KYB's are great for a DD. If you want better handling, then jump to the Bilsteins. Used both, KYB's are a little "softer" ride.

I have the stock Bilsteins which were brand new a year ago - I think they are too soft for a car like this, especially the front end, but for a comfortable non-demanding ride, daily commute kind of thing, they do very well.

The sole purpose of advising the writer to use the search function was to advise him how to increase his knowledge base. Besides advising him to use the search function, I answered his question. I could have simply told him to use the search function and stopped there. I answered his question hoping that he would also search for his answer.

I understand the point that you are trying to make, but you've got to admit that the topic of "shocks", particularly the question he posed comes up at least weekly. After a while, it gets old.

Yeah....it may get old....but....

I've been a member for over a year and am now considering replacing my shocks. I've seen and read the previous year's posts on shocks, BUT....it's always good to hear new info.

Thought I'd go with the Bilsteins, but seeing this thread has convinced me to give the KYB's a shot. It seems that the Bilsteins are NOT the OEM shock, but the heavy-dutyreplacement, and thus a stiffer ride than stock.

Jeebus!!!!

My Bilsteins have 94K on them and are STILL too stiff for my liking....Therefore, I just ordered the KYB's, for a hopefully smoother ride.

This thread helped me make that decision.

Hopefully it'll work out as planned. I'm gonna have my local tire shop install the KYB's. They quoted me $15 each to install. Cain't beat that with a stick, as far as I'm concerned!!!

Yeah....folks who've been in the forum a while are gonna see repetitive threads. Doesn't bother me. May actually help, like today!

Have the stock Bilsteins on my 86....rough ride.
Have the stock Bilsteins with FX3 on the 95...little better but not great
Had QA1 shocks on my previous 92 and loved them. They are expensive but are adjustable from firm to soft. Great shock.
