A few weeks ago, I posted my 1994 Corvette's tach is giving slightly inconsistant readings (+ or - 100-200rpm) For example, at 65mph in overdrive, sometimes it will read say 1900 or so rpm, and others 2100. Most suggested that my torque convertor may not be locking up properly and I'd likely need a new one.
Also, something else I have noticed it the tach needle wobbles when I hit bumps. That makes me want to think that the needle may be loose or something, and not a faulty torque convertor.
When on smooth roads, the needle stays still when I keep my speed constant. So when I am cruising along as 65 mph, it doesn't wander back and forth between 1900 and 2100 rpm. I mean when I go, say, 65, then slow down to a stop or something and then speed back up to 65, the reading will be slightly different.
Anyone have any suggestions? Can a transmission diagnostics tell me what is wrong? I don't wana guess what is wrong and waste a lot of money.
If it is not the needle, I just hope it's only the torque convertor. Surely those are a lot cheaper than a transmission rebuild. I cant afford a rebuild. Where can I find an OEM? Everytime I look online for OEM 4L60E torque convertor, all i find is yank, vigilante, etc...I don't wan a performance one. Just a stock one.
