New problem developed yesterday. I got out of the car and noticed the antenna hadn't retracted after I turned off the radio. I hopped back in it and turned the radio on and off a few times, I could here the motor working but the antenna just shook a little. Is it a b*tch to get to? (91 Coupe) And I wonder if it's repairable or is it time for a new one? Any ideas???
Sometimes you can geta replacement mast and it will fix the problem, though many times it won't go back in the final inch with the new mast. It's fairly accessible by removing the rear driver side inner fender well.

Thanks Fred, I guess that's this weekends project. Do they break or is it possible to take it out and clean and lube up the gears or whatevers in there?
I'm not sure which one you have in the car. The later ones are sealed. The earlier ones you could take apart. What you have is the plastic track has broken. What happens alot is a piece of the plastic antenna breaks off and jams the mecanism when you try to just replace the mast. Replacement masts are about $40.
You can get a mast on eBay for $14 comes with socket to take off the retainer nut.Once you get the nut off the mast will pull out easily. I just did mine and works great HOWEVER If it doesn't move and the motor is running it is a bad sign. If the track breaks off inside and you cannot get it out you will need a whole unit. You will see when you pull the mast out.
Yep - sounds like the antenna mast to me. I just did this on my 98 corvette. and it was a 5 minute job. Here is a great write up with lots of info in the C5 section. The same should hold true for your car.
