Can someone here explain the difference between the 1988, 1989, steering racks? Is there a difference in turning ratios between the 16" and 17" wheel racks? Does the 1994 rack bolt into the same cradle as the 1988, and is it a better rack?
I have a 1988 rack from a Z-51 currently in my '66 Vette sitting in a custom built cradle to accept the stock mounts of the GM Rack (bolt thru the body on the left and "C" clamp on right side. The steering has developed a good deal of 'slack left and right) & begun to 'wander' when I drive over rutted roads. I was planning on replacing it with another unit from one of the companies listed on the web. Seems no one can give me any tech info on them as to ratios and what the codes on the dust cover mean (nS and HF on them). They have different prices also so what's the deal?
Is the 94 rack a better unit and will it fit into my exisitng cradle for the 88? I know about tire size differences, but since I have custom brakes, tie rod ends, rotors and wheels, none of that matters, just the ratio of the steering etc.
HELP?
