83 1/2?
I think I may have stumbled across a MY 83 1/2.. (one of the very few remaining)... the original owner is a close friend of on of my best friends, so I completely trust what she's saying, just proving one way or another is very difficult.
She bought the car new in May of 83 from a Dealer in CA. The VIN has 84 in it, which I wasn't expecting, and the last 5 are 00288... are there any other tells that only would have been on the handful of 83's built (that weren't supposed to get out to the public at large...
Any help would be greatly appreciated - I'm not pretending or claiming to know anything else about this car, which is why I'm looking for the help. If nothing else, so that she understands what this car is, or is not.
Thanks in advance,
Christopher
They started building 84's around April or May of 1983.. offered as a 1984 Model. that MY ran longer then the typical MY run since there were no 83 corvettes sold to the public.

yup.....its an early 84 thats all but an earlier car non the less :yesnod:
those little doohickys on the window that GM used to use to hold framless windows in place...
things like that.
There were exactly 43 made. 42 were crushed. the other is in the museum.
Here is an interesting one - a friend of mine in Fla bought a brandy new 1984 vette in like May of 83 or so. Fla DMV would not permit the titling of that car as an 84!!! So it was taged as an 83!!!! There may be a number of the real early ones in just that situation.

There were only 43 '83's produced, but don't be surprised if you find a few other ones pop up in the next 10-15 years; they were not all crushed.. They are out there, just waiting for someone to find a way to purchase them. Also, as an aside, there is actually 1.5 83's at the Museum. The 'half' C4 that was above the entrance to the Corvette Plant is indeed an '83 model...:)

thats interesting that Fla. would'nt license it as an 84. I would guess that they would use the VIN# as the determining factor. As an 84 the 10th digit would be an E, if it was an 83 it should be a D.
