The previous owner of my car told me he drove it for a decade without the front license plate and never had any problems with the local constabulary. It certainly looks better that way. What do you think: Should I try it?
Re: Question for Illinois Corvette drivers (ronshafer)
I say go for it. I've only been pulled over once in the Vette and the officer never even checked to see if I had a front plate. The local PD razzed my wife about having a plate on the front (she does business w/them) and said it was too ugly that way and get rid of the plate!!  Didn't have to twist my arm.
Re: Question for Illinois Corvette drivers (War Machine)
NOOOOOOOOOO!!!! :smash:
No matter how many times they pull me over for it, I defy them! No front plate! It used to be worse when I had dark tinted windows and no plate, but since I axed the tint, the cops haven't bothered me. Even then, all I got was a $20 ordanince violation when I got stopped in Mt. Prospect. But when the Cook Co. Sheriff stopped me, he made me put the plate on and take a picture and show a nice judge that I was in compliance. That cop was a real tool, and it was right outside of school... Anyway, I took back off right after court  I think they wont pull you over just for the plate, but it's just one more thing they can nail you on when you get pulled over for something else... Eh, I'm a gambler
Re: Question for Illinois Corvette drivers (ronshafer)
I would leave the plate off if I had the front insert. When I bought my Vette, they did not have the plate insert. That means I have both front and rear plates displayed.
Re: Question for Illinois Corvette drivers (ronshafer)
I think I would leave it off. One could argue that many states have no front plate (Florida for one) and there is no increase in traffic concerns with people who don't have tags on the front. After all, isn't a cop going to pull you over from behind your car? I don't know why they need two plates.
Re: Question for Illinois Corvette drivers (ronshafer)
Don't worry about it...I've been driving C4's for over 11 years and have never been hassled. Heck, when I'm in a playful mood in the Vette they only see my tailights anyway. ;) ;) Good luck and enjoy!!
Re: Question for Illinois Corvette drivers (Mint Z51)
No front plate on my Vette or any of my other cars for the matter.... It makes the car look ugly.
I take the risk and if they want to fine me it wont be a moving violation, so I'll just pay the piggies thier fine and go on my merry way! :D
Re: Question for Illinois Corvette drivers (ronshafer)
Go for it. I've been driving the vette here for about 3 years, got two speeding tickets in it and not one of the cops said anything about the plate. Couple of my friends did get tickets in the vette for no front plate though :smash:
Re: Question for Illinois Corvette drivers (maduraj)
Drove till they said put it on. I now have the clear cover to go over it. If it's the law then it's up to you if you want to take the chance in getting a ticket. DPS had set up near where are club was having a meeting and got 12 cars at once. So look out! :mad
Re: Question for Illinois Corvette drivers (ronshafer)
I have my front plate on! I have a bad driving record which includes a DUI from Nov 98. I do not want to give them ANY reason to pull me over. I do have a clear front cover that I plan on tinting to install over the plate. I just need to quit spending time here and get some actual work done!
