When I drive my 88 Corvette, the oil pressure always reads 80 psi on the digital dash, and it never changes... whether idling or driving at higher speeds. I believe that the oil pressure sensor is bad or possibly corroded. Can anyone tell me where it is located on the engine?
When you decide to change the sensor, you may consider changing the switch too (the short one, at about 45 degree angle) since you will be in there. I changed mine last week on my 91 L98, and I must say, it was a bear getting to the sensor. I originally planned to change the switch because it was leaking up through the switch out of the electrical connector. I bought a sensor at Pep Boys and changed it at the same time. Now my oil pressure drops to zero at idle after it gets hot. Point being, I should have bought an OEM sensor! To gain access, I pulled the distributor cap, pulled the plug wires out of the way, loosened the intake tubes just so I could get a 1 1/8 inch wrench on the sensor. The switch will come off with a 1 1/16 deep well socket.

There is an Al stalk comming up from the rear engine land to the right of the dist. Both the oil pressure sensor and the oil pressure switch are located into the sides of that stalk. The oil pressure sensor is the one with only one wire.

Are you having presssure problems or its the sensor/switch failing ?
Pressure. When idling after it is hot, oil pressure drops to zero, gauge bottoms out. During normal driving, gauge follows throttle. It was working fine before I changed it.

- Why you changed it ?
- What brand did you choose ?
Because I was in the area since the switch was leaking, I thought I would be a little pro-active. I believe it is a dura-last (auto Bone). I'm thinking about going to the Dealer to get an AC Delco sensor. P.S. My drawing shows the switch as the short one (one wire). Is that not right?
