Default C4 headlight blues

Can any one tell me why my 1988 headlights have gone crazy and sometimes go up and then go half way down sometimes one will go all the way down - no ryhme or reason. Motors start and stop when light is positioned correctly or not, and they allways go down to the correct position. Can some one advise or point me in the right direction - no pun intended?

Easy enough. Get the headlight rebuild kit from Eckler's or similar Corvette parts company and rebuild the drive gear assembly for each headlight motor. I just did my 88 and the first one took a while. The second headlight was real quick cause I knew what I was doing and looking for.

PM me and I can tell you more over the phone if you want.

As completely as possible of everything about your Corvette and stuff. This makes it easier for people to help diagnose.

Taking apart the headlight module is not that hard, just take your time.

I rebuilt mine over the winter. If you go to the C4 tech section the top post is all you need. This is very informative for rebuilding your own headlight motors.
The total cost is about $35.00 and three hours of your time.

I also purchased the headlight defeat sensor from the www.corvettegadgetman.com .With this device I now turn the headlights on and off manually. No more unnecessary lights flipping up and down every time you drive under a tree or shady spot.

This is a great mod but I did it a different way and found the mod on this forum years ago.

The OP of this mod years ago said to pull out the headlight sensor on top of the dash and install a (I think) 100 ohm resister in the wires then just push the assembly back in the dash.

This idea works great (in my Vette now) and didn't cost me anywhere near $15 for the resister.

For the Canadian Vettes I highly recommend this mod not only because of the irritating fact the headlights will go up just sitting under a bridge waiting for a traffic light to change but it saves wear and tear on the headlight motors.
