Default Stressed about audio wiring

I'm at my wits end. I planned on replacing my stock head unit this weekend and read all the posts about how wierd the set up is in a 96' coupe. I took good notes, ordered a DIN adaptor, wiring harness adaptor and antenna extension.
Well, today I find that the DIN adaptor they sent was for a 2005 Corvette, the wiring adaptor doesn't align with any of the plugs behind the head unit and the wiring colors don't seem to match any of the notes I took.
At the receiver (in the trunk), all the wires match the notes I took, but the two plugs behind the head unit make no sense.
I read that power/memory/ground hook-up must come from the trunk via a self-made wiring harness, but how about the speakers? T
The colors for the speaker plugs at the receiver end don't match the connectors at the head unit end!
I have a ton of notes on wire colors, etc; can someone give me a hand?
Rick

Send the adapter back, c5 radios are totally different then c4's. Your local Circuitcity should have the correct adapter or a car audio store.
