whats up with the transmission? i am wondering if mine is wierd or is everyones like this. i have a 1990 and when its in drive it seems as if its riding high Rpm's but my tach has never worked so i dont know what sound is what.. i used to drive a standard but not a v8 so i dont know exactly what it should sound like. when im going about 55 for awhile it says shift in the intrument panel so i shift it into over drive. but then when im driving it in over drive and im slowing down and speeding up in traffic it feels like its bogging as i would expect being in over drive... whats up with this?
Actually, you should be in OD at 55 and no it should not be bogging down. Get your tach fixed and see what your rpm's are, should be around 15-1600. Check your fluid level and it has a burnt smell or is real dark, change your fluid and the filter. Does the car have a miss or hesitation problem?
no miss.. its kinda wierd though at 55 you have to be in overdrive.. from light to light the speed limit is usually 55 so does that mean i start off in regular drive and shift it when i get to 55? regular drive seems like its working at only 55. i would think being a v8 it would be low rpm s at 55 in regular drive..
sounds like the TV (throttle valve) cable needs to be adjusted.
other than that, a vehicle speed sensor can be going bad.
The car should shift into 4th around 45, and the torque converter locks up just right after that.
try driving steady and even on a smooth road, and keep your foot on the gas, and don't move it. With your left foot, push on the brake pedal just slightly, and the torque converter will unlock, and your RPM's will increase. Then release the brake, and the RPM's will decrease as the torque converter locks again.
If it does not do it, it could be the brake switch, the torque converter clutch (solenoid), vss, or trans. Or someone has changed the rear axle gears to something lower prior to selling the car.
or, just check the fuses first.
