Just has a New windshield installed and of course had issuses from the start. First the guy pokes a hole in my dash and then it leaks. The leak they fixed a few days later and now they have ordered me a new dash from ecklers. Needless to say none of this would have got done if I had not been on there butts everyday for a week. Safelite did the work and did stand by their warranty but still a pain. Get this $1,400.00 for the new glass and mouldings.
Doesn't your insurance have a glass coverage? My windshield is cracked too but very low so it doesn't bother me... but my deductible is $500 for it and i didn't know if that covers new seals or not....

Yes my insurance covers it without a deductible, mine was cracked at the top corner and could not be repaired. New weatherstrip and moulding included.
This is why I removed all the trim and the dash pad myself, and stood there watching them install it the whole time.
I spent about $400 for the glass, the install, and new weatherstrip. The install job was not great. I had to fix leaks and buy lower profile wiper blades to clear hood.
86Pacer,
Who did your work? I am up the road in SLO and need a W/S. I was going to go to a place in Salinas because of referrals I saw here. I think installers want new moldings to save work? Can I just clean and save the $? Also there are many opinions on the quality of the glass manufacturer. Who did you go with?
I used Cal-State Auto Glass and will never use them again for anything. They have a location here in Santa Maria as well as in Five Cites and another in SLO. I reused my old retainers. If I had to do it again, I would use new retainers. The old ones get bent when removing them, and all traces of weatherstip and glue must be scraped off. The installers did not take the time to reseal these and straighten them out all the way which caused leaks. These guys where in a mad rush doing mine, and where even tossing each other sharp tools across my car.
Cal-State Auto Glass offers a mobile service that show up to your house. Honestly, most of these mobile installers are just trying to get through one job as fast as possible and get to the next one. Even if you ask, some of these places will lie and tell you they have C4 experience when they don't just to make the sale.
Long story short, I took the car and showed the manager the leaking windsiheld. Then one of the installers came out and basically told me that I did not know what I was talking about. So I poured a jug of water on the glass and they both saw the massive leaking into the cabin. Manager agreed to have the problem corrected. When he said that, the installer who's name was "Sal" began to bitch and whine about having to redo the job. Manager just let this guy walk all over him and did or said nothing right there in front of me. So I decided to fix it myself as opposed to letting these guys put hands on it again.
I have a friend who runs his own glass business out of Santa Maria. He's done some exotic cars and even did a $7,000 windshield on a Ferarri up in SLO. He guarantees his work and will beat anyone's price. I did not know he did glass till after I used Cal State. PM me if you want his contact info.
Well they got all the leaks fixed and bought me the new dash. I will install the dash myself to save anymore headaches. Must say they backed up their word. All good in the end.
