Im finally ready to hook up the hoist and take the bellhousing bolts and motor mounts off. Is there a lot of wires/grounds to disconnect from the bottom of the engine?
there are ground wires on the back of the heads, the block to frame braided grounds, there is the starter wires, the knock sensor, and the oil temp sensor. other than that, there's nothing on the bottom. 99% is all on top. just be careful moving the engine past the area where the computer harness comes out of the car on the right side of the block. there's a vacuum hose inside the harness, and you can break it real easy.
take off the cover to the windshield wipers because that cover is plastic and easily cracked.
how close is the crank pulley from the metal frame area in front of it? any special tips/tools needed for getting the bellhousing bolts off?
For getting those bolts off I have removed the heads first before I pull the motor out. Another way is to support the tranny with a jack, unbolt the engine mount bolts and lower the tranny so that the front of the engine starts to point up in the air. This allows easier access to the bolts from underneath with a 2' ratchet extension
There are 6 bellhousing to engine bolts not including crank/flywheel to trans/clutch. If you are not removing the heads first the two upper bolts can be a major pain. Caution: Watch very carefully what the bolts hold like electrical clips for cables and the like. They need to go back in the same location.
