1992 vette LT1- 5.7 twice in the last 4 or 5 weeks I went to start my car and it had trouble staying running it was stuttering and very low rpm's backed out of garage and gave it a few good rev's and went for a ride and then is fine again only 48000 miles no misses high or low speed always use 91 octane and good fuel injector cleaner have never changed the fuel filter I am baffled Larry F. e-mail is junkman5301@qwest.net anyone that can help out, thanks
I had this problem a couple of month's back. I was convinced the throttle body was the issue, so I soaked it in carb cleaner and then wiped it out - it helped, but didn't correct it. Finally I gave up and took it to my dad's mechanic about an hour and a half from here. He and dad spent the better part of an afternoon with it - new plugs, plug wires, and they adjusted the throttle cable. As it turned out, two of my plug wires were so old and brittle they broke when they took them off of the spark plug, the other six weren't as bad, but were bad enough. It was like a new car when I got it back.
The theory is that the plug wires were causing the issue. However, while he had it, I had him put a new fuel filter on it. It's easier to do on his lift than on my garage floor. So that could've been part of the problem as well.
If your's still has the original plugs and plug wires, I'd start there. Even if that doesn't fix it, it's money well spent.
Clean your idle air control and then reset as follows...
Depress the accelerator pedal slightly.
Start and run the engine for five seconds.
Turn the ignition OFF for ten seconds.
Restart the engine and check for proper idle operation.
