Turned off the engine yesterday on my '92 and the HVAC blower kept running after the key was removed. Shortly before I shut down I noticed that I could not control the fan speed. Air conditioning works fine. Had to remove plug from blower to keep it from running continuosly. Any suggestions?
Same problem on my '87. I was out late one night. Had to call Momma to come give me a jump. What a downer!!
When I got out of the car, I thought I heard a motor running but assumed it was HVAC from surrounding buildings. (dummy!) It was the blower moter still running after the car was OFF!!! What is with that?
With the help of this forum, I learned that the Climate Control Option uses a Control Module instead of a fan relay and failure of the module could cause the fan to run after the car is truned off. This kind of blew me away. I found a new module on eBay and replaced the module. I'm back in business $125 later.
From what I learned on this forum, this saved me about $400 from the dealer. Thanks for all the great contributions on this forum. What an awesome resource!

Replace the blower relay/module. Its fused in the open position.
Before replacing: The Electronic HVAC processor (Control Panel or Programmer - depends on Year) monitors actual blower voltage on a fused 5 amp circuit. And the Dilbert who designed this decided that the Blower cranking at Full Speed (even with the ignition off) would be a neat default if that fuse should open. So check that 5 amp fuse first. It's on the firewall to the left of the Evaporator Case - '89 or older. It's in the Fuse Box - '90 or newer - and usually labled PGMR. If the fuse has opened, check for a short to voltage/ground on the power side or you may need a new blower motor.

Exactly the way my car behaved when the blower motor control unit failed. I think you should buy a new motor control unit.
