Well, after 3 long years parked in my garage, I finally got my 1984 Corvette back out on the road today!!! In 2005 it did not pass state inspection (Maine) due to bad rear bearings. I did not have the money to fix it, so I parked it in my garage, and it was not until this winter that I scraped enough together by selling old parts to buy new hub/bearing assemblies. I registered it today, and it drove like it has not missed a beat. When I got home from work, my 4 year old son promptly asked if I could take him for a ride. Life is good!!

Life is good, your Vette on the road again. Keep after it and fix the little things as they come along and the "BAD" inspection man won't hurt you (too much). Cool that your son wanted to ride!!
And i think it's great when my son (6) asks me to take him for a ride. Even though he can't see out of any window aside from the targa, he still loves every minute of it.
The Boy Scouts and Scout Master were by the house on a fundraiser a few weeks back. I was working on my Vette in the garage and the boys were admiring it. The Scoutmaster was trying to get them to look at my V8 Vega, but the boys weren't having any of that. "Look at the nice Corvette" was all they could say .
Mr Weber
Just curious, how did the inspection station identify bad wheel bearings?
How bad were they?
Steve
They had the car up on a lift and grabbed the wheels at 3:00 and 9:00 (or it might have been 12:00 and 6:00). Anyway, there was a little "play" that shouldn't have been there. When I got it home, I checked for myself to be sure. I didn't really question them. After all, this car has 186,000 miles on it. Now that the job is done, I can say with 100% certainty that they were the original bearings, and I don't think one piece of my entire rear suspension has ever been removed. Also, one of them did not spin freely at all, so either way, this was a job that needed to be done, and now I have new bearings/hubs. There was not a single screw or bolt that was not a complete PIA to get off. I eventually just started soaking each bit in Liquid Wrench before I even bothered trying to loosen.
3 years... wow!!! I would have gone nuts. Congrats on getting her going again.
Yeah, I just couldn't quite justify the money. At the time my son was 1 year old, and then we had a baby girl. With two young kids, there were not a lot of extra nickels to go around. Having said that, never once in the entire time did my wife even hint that I should try to unload the car. As a matter of fact, she encouraged me to get it on the road when I did. Now THAT'S a woman to keep!
Yesterday I got to take my son for a ride. The first thing he said was "This is cool!". The weather guessers were way off base, and we got rained on, but it was still a blast to take him for his first ride ever in a Corvette.
I also got a wave Friday night from a guy driving a sweet early C3 with a monster hood. I'm guessing whatever he had under it was not stock.
Holy Cow! They put cars on a lift in Maine to do Inspections?! The first thing they do here in Texas is check your wallet to see if you can pay for the sticker.

Nowadays that's about the only cheap part of running diesels.
1st time I took the vette in for inspection my reaction was pretty much .
I had forgotten how much a gasser costs to get that sticker!
