You good folks helped me out last fall when I tackled a radiator replacement. Now it appears my starter is going. I've got 113K on the car and the starter may well be the original. I plan to install new rather than rebuilt but I want to make sure I'm not getting in over my head. My Haynes manual makes the job seem fairly straight forward. Is there anything I need to know that's not covered in the manual? Also, I ran across a posting indicating that shimming is required. Is that standard for this job? I appreciate any advise you experienced guys can pass along
Not hard at all.Get the car up on ramps if you can, disconnect the battery and have at it.If its an auto you will have to move the trans lines abit as they run right under the starter. As far as finding a new one goes,I dont think there are any -NEW- OEM type starters anymore, only rebuilt. The best thing you can do is have yours rebuilt, make sure afterward your starter is the one you get back. The rebuilds at the parts store always seem to be junk.Hope this helps.

Just took mine off to change my oil pan.. There were no shims on mine..and you will have to do the trans lines if it is an auto.. Be careful of the knock sensor which is right behind the starter.. you may want to remove it to make it easier to get at the rear bracket on the starter.. Good luck..
Thanks for the feedback guys. Based on your comments, it sounds like something I can handle. I wasn't aware that new OEM starters are no longer available. I'll take Jeff's advise and have mine rebuilt.
