The release for the top cover does not work, the cable from the release button to the back is broken. How hard is it to replace this cable?
It has a brand new top, does a new top come w/new frame also?
I just replaced my top after 22 years and it was just worn, and the plastic window was hazy but I'm sure it depends on if it is garaged or outside and how much you put the top up/down, they do not come with a new frame but unless it gets bent or abused it will last a long time. If it has a new top now and you take care of it it will last you years. Do you know if it's a stayfast top or what material it's made of the newer materials will hold up better than the vinyl. I don't think the release cable will be a big deal I haven't replaced one but I have adjusted them on my car and it seems like a pretty simple system. Hope this helps a little with your decision, I love my vert. Good luck.
I have a '95 vert with the cable that release the back of the convertible top from the body (2 pins). The main cable is broken, Chevy does not have in stock anymore but Ecklers sells the 3 cable set for my car for about $60.00.
Not hard to change, I'm waiting for mine to be delivered.
I have 1989 and in 1999, I had it replaced cause I wanted a glass window instead of the plastic. The old top was in good shape, and the new one looks like the day I installed, and living in Florida the sun is hot, and in summer I run A/C cause it's just to hot.
Just replaced the entire set of three cables in my '96 a couple weeks ago. They practicaly fell in place. It took about twenty minutes of work while enjoying a warm and sunny spring afternoon to get them installed. I picked mine up at my local Chevy dealer. Part number 10278305 Cable F/T. The set listed at around $46.00.
Frames stay, cloth tops are replaced. If you have any bad weatherstrip, have it replaced at that time. The cable is a piece of cake, available used or Ecklers, etc. I would personally go new, they aren't that much. Make sure the cables are lubed up while off the car. Enjoy the new car!
