just wondering if theres a way to figure out the stock color of paint on my car by looking at the vin number?? if so whats the color from this vin 1G1YY2182K5122692

Info came out of a '85 shop manual. The paint code on my 85 is listed with all of the other option codes(RPO numbers) on a sticker on one of the storage compartment covers.

and i think ya read my vin wrong for the 21 bit
you only read 2 ..... 2 means coupe 3 means convertible i dunno what the 1 is for.

ok so how do i know which number on the RPO sheet is the color ??

i am doing my homework about my car so i can go sue a used corvette dealership for stealing almost 7,000 canadian dollars from me..... they charged me16,000 cdn for a 1988 vehicle (thats really 1989) that has salvage titles and rebuild titles! THEY NEVER TOLD ME THE VIN NUMBERS WERE CHANGED TO BRITISH COLUMBIA VINS! they told me it was a stolen theft recovery and the only damage was 2000 bucks and it was the doors being replaced...... WHEN DOES THAT MEAN THE VIN NUMBER HAS TO BE CHANGE??........ either way thanks for any help ya can offer me, blue

 

on the RPO sheet, there should be some numbers down low on the sticker... all by themselves.

alright looked at the stuff in that website yeah i've done all that the main thing i can't find are where the heck the colors are on this RPO sticker of mine

all the options are there and well some of em i still dunno wtf they are but the big deal is me finding out the original color of the car. its supposed to be red i think how can i verify if from the rpo's?? at the bottom it says BASE COAT/CLEAR COAT WA-L8774 U8774 19C

ok so i know what the 19C means BLACK CLOTH and yes i got that but how to tell what original color of the car is? this has to do with me being charged way too much for a car that doesn't have original vin numbers in the dash and no number on the door (its scratched off) so what i am saying is a dealer of corvettes here in vancouver has cheated me out of alot of money almost 7-8,000 canadian dollars! the car won't be able to acheive collecter status without the original numbers and well the number i found on the vins is what i'm trying to see is the real number of the car or not. from what i have seen so far it seems my car went to a chop shop after it was stolen and then put into salvage.... the dealer told me it was stolen and the doors were replaced i found through carfax that the car was a salvage and was rebuilt! but where does changing vin numbers come in when the cars been stolen?? so thats what i want to attack the dealership about. if you can all help me ASAP i will be very greatful.

What is that, like $50 US? :p: Just kidding man, sorry to hear about your loss. Didn't you say before that they explained the problem with the VIN to you? :confused: Did they ever fess up that it was a salvage title?

no man they never told me nothing about vin numbers and i never asked.
but then someone brought it to my attention that a vin, if original, will make my car worth much more and that the $16,000 ($18,240 if you include taxes) i paid is too much for the car. so thats why i'm pissed cuz these guys seem to have sold me a chop shop car from what my friend told me.... oh well i'm still doing my research on the cars RPO's i know the car used to be red.... how do i know it was red off the BG assembly line from looking at the RPO's??

RPO Color codes for 1989 = U10 L10 for White U81 L81 for Bright Red
1988 = U40 L40 for White U81 L81 for Bright Red
If you find the U (Upper) L (Lower) Color codes, they should be a (2)Didgit Number after the U or L.

whats this mean??

 

On my vert on the concel lid it says this at the bottom,

Base coat Clearcoat/ WA-L8774 UA774 19T 732

My car is red with red interior

and guess what guys! I HAVE FINALLY DECODED THE RPO STICKER IN MY CARS CONSOLE! IT IS MY CARS ACTUAL ONE AND THAT IS THE ORIGINAL VIN OF THE CAR!....... EVERYTHING IS PROVEN hahaha now to talk to some lawyers about the replacement vins someone put on my car and the scratched vin in the door jamb ..... then to send some papers over to www.corvette-specialties.com and get some money back and maybe even shut this corvette dealership down cuz they give a bad name to corvettes ! these guys do such bad business treat their customers like crap! and they do illegal stuff such as sell a car that doesn't have original vin's! AND THEY FAIL TO MENTION THAT CAR HAS NON ORIGINAL VINS! ...... haha bye bye to these guys..... i always thought i'd get my revenge on em by buying em out one day and making it a nice place for vette owners to come to and be treated well and fairly at and not have to put with BS like i had to and like my friend had to...... well maybe i will just end up making an even better place with my buddy someday in the future..... anyways wish me luck with this stuff and pray that all corvette dealers who almost want you to not own a vette, to burn in

Look at it this way.. You got an '89 for the '88 price. $16,000 Canadian=$10,137.61 U.S. That is a good price for a good looking driver.If it drives good and looks good , enjoy it.Sounds to me like a good car to drive and enjoy for a decent price, after all it's still a nice looking Corvette.Glad you decipherd the codes.Just what color did you decide it was originally? I'm not real sure what the WA L and U numbers mean as mine says WA L7781 U7781 and the rpo code was 13L 13U for Silver.

 

my original color was bright red...... yeeah yeah i know how they say, "all corvettes are red inside" well my car is the proof to this statement :lol:
yeah anyways the car would be decent for that price IF..... the numbers were original in the dash and i had a number on the doors metallic sticker...... but nope.... the number in the DASH isn't the same as the one as on the RPO codes and the one in the door is scratched! the number in the dash isn't 1G1YY2182K5122692...... its BC87978071293 ..... and a carfax report someone sent me for for the 1G1YY2182K5122692 vin says the car was given a salvage title in 1990 and in 1992 it was given a rebuild title.....theres no accidents on file in carfax meaning my car was sent to a chop shop and the dash number was cut out and the one in the door was scratched.... i guess the car was caught in the middle of the tampering and since it had no visibile numbers it was decided that it be thrown into a salvage yard..... the dealership i got it at never told me the vin numbers were changed... meaning this car isn't worth the 16,000cdn i paid..... more like 10,000cdn..... thats my point.... so thats why i wanna take these guys who run "corvette specialties" to court for doing something illegal which is selling me a car that isn't worth what i paid and for not telling me the cars numbers aren't matching and that one isn't even there... thats totally illegal and they are going to hell for it..... heck its the least i can do to pay em back for treating me like total poopie when i went to get this car from them. to this day its roof panel leaks.... and i found out yesterday its leaking on the driver side onto my driver seat cuz the weatherstrip on that side of the roof is cut.... its absorbing water instead of repelling it they wanted me to pay for the cost of the weatherstrip on the car i told em sure but haven't paid the 300 they wanted they replaced my window weatherstrip but even that looks like its old its not new like they promised me and they never gave me the roof panel weatherstrips either like they promised so this is the least i can do for em and thats to give em a good kick in the pants. i still dunno why i went there to get my car.... everyone told me not to deal with em cuz they have all had similar problems but i went anyways cuz it was so convenient and they were the only ones with a white c4 like i wanted..... oh well crying times over for me nows payback time :) ......

so i hope ya understand now why i am angry about the dealership.... they cheated me thats all.... i love the car and like you said, "enjoy it" and yep i do enjoy it..... but at the sametime i feel bad cuz the cars never gonna be a acheive collector status... and thats what i want for it too i want to start a collection of many corvettes and the older ones won't be my daily drivers. thats all. its kinda like a thorn in my side and i know that by taking those crooks to court is the only way i can get that thorn out.
