Digital dash problem
Now i am having a problem with the center, 1992, of the dash with the volts measurement and the LCD going darker after a few seconds.
I jsut noticed that both gauges, analog and digital react the same way when the volts drop to 12.6 or so .
I had NAPA check my system and they said it was working fine. I have noticed that if i put on the air the volts go from 14.1 to 12.6 and then back to 13.6 to 13.9 +.
My headlights do not seem to dim at all when this is happening.
I chaced down the ground cable on the battery and cleaned the small extra lead that goes to the frame today, but it is still doing it? if it is another ground or the main ground wherre does it attach to the vette and can I get at it without a jack. On vaca in Fl.
I know there was a thread here a couple of days ago, but i can not find it?
Thanks

They are hard to get at on a good set of ramps. They are attached with a very large bolt (3/4 inch wrench required) and probably not likely that they came loose. If you want them checked maybe a garage with a lift could help. If you were able to get the bolt out without getting under the car you would probably not be able to get it back together easily. The smaller wires are the ECM grounds.
The small one from the battery goes to frame near a braided ground strap that goes to transmission from frame.
If the car is running right otherwise (ECM) working OK then the big black cable is probably tight. If it were loose, your ECM grounds would also be loose.
I would guess the problem to be something else. The digital dash is controlled by the CCM as far as I know and you should have two fuses in the main panel for that, CCM1 and CCm2, you could check them and make sure their clean and pushed in all the way. I have never had trouble with it so I don't know, but if you have CCM problems you won't be working on that on the road either, you will probably have to limp it home or ignore it for now.
Thanks, I was just at the vette place today and forgot, darrr, to get a ground cable also. The ground to the trans was broken off, so I connected it to one of the exhaust bolts, too hard to get at the trans.
Everything else is working great, no problems at all. so i am guess that it must be a loose ground wire or the one I attached to the engine and not the trans. Should do the same job I would think.
This is the first time I have had problems with the dash. I will check the two fuses tomorrow also, good catch. I am kind of lost without my books for the 1992 on vaca and trying to remember. Getting too old to remembeer everything.
I am going to try a new battery tomorrow, even though this one is only a month old. When the macanic checked it today, it hardly had any fluid in it at all. so maybe they is causing some of the problems.
Thanks
