Default Mirror motor broken.

There are two arms that make the mirror go up or down, and hold the glass sturdy.

My left to right rod are broken I believe. I cant tell because its in a rubber sleeve.

Is there a fix ? How would I get in there ? I heard radio shack sells motors for this ?

Should I just buy new mirror motors ? Where?

Dan

If you move the mirror to the extreme inside you can get two fingers behind the glass and pop it off the "X" trunion. Then you can see what's up and decide how to proceed.

I am aware of the X and its fine. ITs meerly a swivel point for the two rods that move the mirror either right to left or up and down.

Up and down works, making me think the rod is broken for left to right. Not sure if its fixable ?

Power and heated.

I have my mirrors apart and tested them. The up and down works on both but the left to right does not. No sure If I broke em or what. Right now they are not hooked in the X, but I should be able to see some kinda movement. It makes a noise as if it wants to move.\
Its not the switch as I can feel it being loose with no tension.

Here is a pics The problem is in the rubber boot which moves the glass.

Any info on fixing these would be great !

Dan I am not trying to beat a dead horse but I had the exact same issue - BUT I swapped mirrors to test the motors. I found the up and down issue stayed on the drivers side.... The passenger mirror did not work plugged into the drivers side yet the drivers worked on the passenger side. Make sure before you proceed.

Thanks but we are beeating a dead horse !!!

As you can see there are two rubber boots. One of them is secure feeling, it feels attached. The left to right does not work and does not feel attached (which is why its not working).

I have bench tested this also ITS NOT THE SWITCH.

I have the mirror all together and it flops from right to left. Not because of the X, but becuase the arm in this rubber boot is broken or not connected. There for it can not conrtol in and out. It aslo will not keep the mirror in place becase its not connected.

Getting ready to cut the boot open.

I thought there was a fix some where its only that one arm in the rubber boot.

If your mirror can't be fixed, give Contemporary Corvette a call to see if they can hook you up with a used mirror or motor.

For archive purposes.

I found my fix. I guess in all cases you are best separating the glass from the mirror, the mirror from the motor, the motor from the bracket, and the bracket from the metal mirror its self.

I ended up sliding the boot off. Have to break the glue. The arm works by a rod that screws in and out. On the end it connects to the mirror. That was where my problem was. It popped of. And with out moving the boot off I would not have known where to put it in (lined up).

My remedy was to completely take the glass off, so i had to remove the two arm from connecting to the glass. and Disconnect the X union.

Then pun the screw sticking out fully. After all mirror pieces are screwed together, then I poped my arms in the glass. Then the glass into all connections (arms and X union).

Hope this helps if you ever need the info.
