Is there really that many false alerts with the Valentine one? On all the radar tests they talk about the # of false alerts in K and X band. Is this a problem or is it worth it to have such a great detector? Seems like a lot of the Corvette drivers use the V1 according to the last radar detector post on the forum. If it isn't I'll just go with the Passport 8500 X50. Gotta spend that rebate money somehow because I just can't keep my foot out of the far end of the gas pedal.
Everything I've ever heard about radar detectors says the V1 is the best. The only other one to consider is the Beltronics STi Driver. That one is immune to the Radar Detector - Detectors that cops use in VA and DC. So if you don't live there, then the V1 is the choice.
I've never owned a V1. I own an x50 and you can turn off specific bands. In MN, x band is only for doorways, so I turn it off. I'm not sure if you can do that with a V!.

I'm pretty sure you can't turn off the X band on the V1.

YES, you can turn off the x-band on the V1. You can (if you want to )do a lot of programming to make the V1 nice and quiet and still very receptive to radar threats. I have x band turned off and mine is quiet. Check out www.radardetector.net and you'll see how easy it is to programm a V1 to your liking. I wouldn't have anything but a V1!!!!!!!
I can't complain about my Passport 8500 x50. I still don't understand why a unit with blue LED readout is $40.00 higher than the very same unit with red LED readout.
Radartest.com is run by a guy named Craig Peterson who works for Bel and Escort so he bashes the V1 every chance he gets and promotes Bel and Escort products. He got busted trying to sabotage the Guysoflidar.com 2007 radar detector test and he will probably have to part with a couple thousand dollars on top of the $1000 radar gun that he hid under camouflauge on top of a mountain to throw off the testing.

Seems odd though, wouldn't that throw off all the detectors plus the testing area is in the middle of no where and why would he leave his name on the box??
I wondered about that, meaning when these guys are testing why the results vary so much and what is their motive. That is disturbing to find out. Thanks for letting us know about the scam. I a, going to buy the V1 after reading these posts and the other info I have gathered off the NET.
Those of you that have the V1 would you buy again or would the false alerts be to much trouble.
....i own 2 v-1's and although i may get some false alarms, i will never shut that (or any other) band off nor be worried about it...i would rather the v-1 go off even if it is a "false" then not at all......at least this way i will take a second glance at my speedometer......and YES, i would not hesitate to buy again if need be!

I asked the escort rep that when I worked at BBY. He told me the gas inside the blue LED's make the blue ones more expensive. I don't know that it would make that big of a difference, but the blue detectors are designed for the color-blind. There's your fun tip for the day!
We own 2 V1's. We get very few false signals on either band. If I had to buy another radar detector, I would not even look at any other detector. As far as Va. and DC areas, they have never detected my V1, and I've been going thru there for 5 years with the V1. The people at V1 told me the only state that can detect it is Texas.
The only thing I don't like about the V1 is the tacky look of it. The goofy arrows, the big ****. They would sell more if they made them look like something not out of the 70's. But it looks right at home above an 8 track .

The rep doesn't know what he is talking about. LED's (light emitting diodes) do not have gas in them, they are a small square of silicon, just like any other solid state diode. Look at one under some magnification and you can see the silicon chip. The public, "thinks", that blue LED's are the berries and Escort takes advantage of that idea and charges more for their models with blue LED's in them. Blue LED's cost the same as red ones.

I don't give crap what it looks like, what I care about is that it can detect police radar and laser from the longest distance possible. The V1 delivers! Also, you clearly don't know the value of knowing from what direction the radar and laser is. When your detector goes off, the first thing you ask yourself is, "Where is he"? The arrows tell you. And....what big ****? its the same size as the **** on competitors detectors. Good luck with your Fuzzbuster!
