I would look at the for sale sections here in the forum to get a guage on the used market.

As for the new market, the forum dealers are discounting quite heavily, so I figure business isn't exactly "booming" right now.

I just bought a 1985 Vet with 19025 original miles for 10,500 a few days ago. Just had it appraised by a prof. appraiser and it is valued at 14,500. FYI.

Default New models are just sitting in showrooms.

I just bought a new Impala the other day for my wife and the Chevy dealer had about eight new Corvettes on the showroom floor. The salesman told me that the new Vette sales were way down because of the cost of everything else these days. He also mentioned to me that if he was to have a few older models for sale that they would be sold very quickly as so many people just don't have $60,000 to play with anymore.

I would think just the opposite, folks that buy new Corvettes are not so concerned about speed bumps in the economy. This "recession" talk is not substantiated by economic figures. Slowdown, yes, but recession??? GNP is still on the rise, the markets are recovering, etc.

Fuel costs and their effect on everything is obviously a concern, but I don't think for those that buy new Corvettes. Problem with sales is the new model is just around the corner. Remember, the '07 had to compete with the 38 hp bump that came with the '08's.

And used Vettes, they are worth only what someone is willing to pay for it. Insurance appraisals are different than what it will sell for.

Maybe you should talk to the Chevrolet dealership and let them know whats really going on. You have a much better idea to why these new Vettes are still sitting in their showroom.

FIXED I just read that SUV's and Truck sales are so slow that dealers are not taking the large ones in trades since the dealers lots are flooded with them. It is a buyers market if you have cash right now whether you are buying a new or used 'Vette. JMHO

You would have to look at the demographics of the typical C6 buyer and look at what they are challenged with right now. I'd say their home values are decreasing, people are having difficulty getting loans even with good credit, and the job market is pretty shaky. Consumer confidence is down. Luxury items like a new corvette are discretionary spending which is the first to be put on hold.

Default car sales

An article in the NY Times the other day noted that sales of economy cars are booming. I played golf with the finance director of a local Chevy dealer and he said cars like the Aveo are "flying off the showroom floor." Maybe this is spin on a bad market but the Times article seems to bear him out. You can buy a one year old used Aveo that gets 30+ mpg for like 5-6 thou.

IMO people who want to buy a Vette could care less about the shape of the economy. A Vette is not a necessity like food, heat, or a place to live. I could sell mine for whatever an E-Bay action could get me and the gas will still cost me the same to fill the Blazer or the Cavalier. The Vette could sit in the garage or in the driveway, but I would still have it.

i like those stories. I will check next month the tampa dealers to see for cheap cars and take 2 back to europe as i do each year.

For instance. Just bought a mercedes 350 c amg last month for 38000$.

That is so cheap. It is 25000 euros for me equals a basic car in europe.
I am sure i can catch a corvette for 50000$ equals 35000 euros and sell it in france for 70000 euros or 100000$.

No mortgage crisis or recession over here.

No just bad manners and snails for food. Glad to hear things are going well for you in your country. No need to gloat over it.

come on! Keep the sport attitude. No offense.

a funny stuff happened to me last month for the mercedes.
The dealer was extremly surprised i wanted to pay cash.
i asked for a price reduction because i was paying cash.

He said that he could even give me a better price if i buy the car with one of his crefit plan.

He asked me if i was already having mortgages etc and i said not one.
he looked at me like if i was an extraterestrial and probably though that i was a bad credit guy or something because not having any mortgage in florida.

So i paid cash the mercedes but not with the maximum rebate.

Something go wrong in this system.

We certainly ARE in a recession. Did you know that the gov't. purposely DOES NOT count food (skyrocketing) prices and fuel (skyrocketing) prices when calculating the GNP? There is a reason for that. They do it just so they can state there's no recession. If they calculated those figures into the equation like they should be doing, it would reveal that the U.S. is in an extreme recession, bordering on a depression.

I'm a Republican and the problem lies solely with Bush. He should not have that stooge Bernake in there. He needs to go. Continuously lowering interest rates is partly causing this problem. China is a major factor in our country's current problem. Our exports have basically gone to nil, while our imports have gone to the umteen billions, with no import tax. And now, that moron Bush is soon to allow China to import death-trap autos built in Mexico and sold in the U.S. for again, no import tax. Bush will be the death of the U.S. He's doing nothing about the illegal alien situation and actually encourages it. He seems to want the entire country of Mexico here and is striving to get oil to hit $200 a barrel. That couldn't be because his family is involved in oil, could it? Nah. That's just impossible. Okay, I'm done.

what you say sounds logical but look in france.
3.8 gas liters (1 gallon) will cost you 12$
food is also very expensive because we eat biological, no genetic
mods allowed. About 50% more expensive than usa.

I think you have good margin.

also, young generation and mexixans will not vote mac cain to replace old generation politics.

What you should be concern of are the new and increased taxes that new president will create to finance social stuff and internal economy
instead of iraq and stock market speculations .
