Input from the C4 experts please
A good friend is considering buying the silver C4 vert at the top of this page. The price seems pretty high. I dropped by there and took a look at it today and it is a gorgeous low mileage car. The original owner lived in Tulsa and shipped it to Lingenfelter for a stroked 383. I looked at the receipts and he spent about $21K on this. The car dynos at 357 rwhp and 356 tq. I would think for that kind of money it would be higher.
So . . . . . . my question is what do you all think this is worth?
Nice Vette but for that year??? LT4 or 383 with supercharger would be nice. I would want more for the money. Nice vert I like it, looks clean that's important.
I think you need to figure out what he car would be worth w/o the engine upgrade, say 16K? If so, then you are paying 11k for the engine upgrades; That seems like alot to me, put then, I am not buying it.
The prices on all of those C4s seem high to me. That is one sweet CE vert. Verts usually go about $3K-$5K more than a coupe. Lets also figure another $1.5K for it being a CE.
Low mile vert @ $15,000 add $1,500 for CE and $5K for mods. (The LPE package goes for @ $10K..so knock that in half)
That's $26,500.00 Still alot of cash. That would be my basline guess. I would offer $20K-$22K only because of the uniqueness and the low miles. Plus it includes the Hard top. Keep in mind..If you start to pile up the miles on that thing, The value will drop like a rock. That may not matter to some owners, as they would benifit from the thrill of driving it.
You would REALLY have to be a C4 lover to pay that kind of $$ for it.

There's no reason that this car should be below 400 rwhp or more. It seems that Lingenfelter only did their minimum amount here. If they installed some higher quality parts, or installed a few extras, they would have easily hit the 400 mark. They charged a fortune for their work and what did they accomplish? A car that gained less than 100 HP and some fancy badges. Oooh! Sorry, but "we don't need no stinkin' badges" for that kind of money. For the money that Lingenfelter charged, that owner could have gone to a respected engine builder and have a car that has at least 500 HP with a bunch of extra goodies.
I also question the lack of bang for the engine bucks. That is a pretty mild stroker?! Lingenfelter isn't known for being cheap, or performing those minimal upgrades, less than 100 horse increase?! Something doesn't jibe. Clean title? Definately do a car fax before serious consideration. What does he want to do with the car, a driver, or supposed investment? It would be borderline as an investment, and a relatively small crowd of prospective buyers in that price range.
That is alot of money dumped into that vette for very little gain in horsepower. When ur spending that much money on a car you really have to love it and enjoy driving it. I could never enjoy driving it jus cause its automatic, but im not everyone
For that money it should put somewhere near 450-500 hp to the rear wheels IMO. If it had the lingenfelter supercharger I think it would likely make those numbers. 20K miles is not super low and its an auto. I wouldn't pay over $20K for it. Its a nice car for high teens.
My 92 six speed has 350 at the wheels with I'd say with about 3k or less. Most of you veterans know Nathan Plemons, his 92 six speed has almost 390. And I'd say he's only got about 4k...if that.
Yep way too much. Nice car and all but you can find a clean car like it for mid to high teens if you look around enough especially in this economy. For that money you can get a decent Z06 or late model C5 these days.
LPE lists their LT1 package at 440hp and the LT4 at 450hp (fly wheel). So maybe the dyno numbers are not far off. Also LPE packages are proven performers and they probably can do them with their eyes closed. They are emissions certified and have a 2 year 24K mile warranty. It probabbly doesn't come with a huge cam andthey are built for excellent street manners and drivability. Google LPE and look at the LT1 package for the parts list. Nice stuff
Folks love to throw out the magic 500hp number. Truth be told when these packages first came out they produced more power than the ZR1, Dodge Viper and Porsche turbo. LPE cars were some of the fastest cars in thier time. Money doesn't only mean power...It means quality.
Can you build a 383 that makes more than 450hp? Sure...Will it pass emissions and last as long as an LPE...(remember they had to warranty it).
The newer cars today make more power...But still at 440-450HP it's making more power than a C6-436hp, Dodge SRT8-425hp. Even the C5 Z06-405hp
For the record my 383 make a little more power than the one listed in this thread. I didn't spend $10K on the 383 build, but it wasn't cheap. I could have went for more power but I didn't want a really lumpy cam idle and I wanted it to streetable (drive nice and docile in normal traffic)
I know my car quicker than a C6.
The car listed on this thread is a very nicely done and well taken care of low mile Vert CE...The problem is not the motor, it's the price..Great car though.
