im going to be buying a c4 soon as can be seen from my sig... the car has to be able to start and run perfectly everyday... i realize it all depends on the specific car i buy, but which one is generally more reliable???
- thanks, danny
I cannot speak for LT1's for I have never owned one, but as far as my LT4; it is the most fun, reliable, performance oriented car I have ever owned! I have seen both LT'1 and LT4's go through some serious hard driving and keep on running like they just came off the showroom.
I rode my '92 LT1 from 28,000 to 78,000 miles in the last 2.5 years.
Just watch that damned, cursed, #$!*&&!! OPTI SPARK. Its the distributor on these cars and is probably the only major failure you can absolutely can count on happening in a relatively "low mileage" car. Its symptom is one of bad starting, stalling, misfiring and frustration. Expect it to cost close to $1,000 to replace (includes labor, towing from your best friend's wedding, new wires and waterpump). If the car is in the above mileage range and the OPTI has not been replaced,,,, then is will definitely fail on you soon. Ask about it! Other than that,, the car is a doll and it will make you feel like you were born again.

Justin's right about the nefarious Opti's. That's about the biggest weak link in what's easily one of the finest engine's the General's ever produced. Mad torque and horsepower when you flog it, but daily manners so polite and sociable, your grandma could tool around in it all day and never miss a beat! That LT-1's a helluva powerplant! :chevy
Same basic motor. Just some extra performance parts on the LT4. Reliability will be identical in 95+ with the newer optispark. The older one is still reliable if you don't power wash your motor.
