Default Red Button. Good Idea/Bad Idea

OK here is my theory:
MidAmerica sells the on/off switch for you power antena so when u are listening to a CD the antena stay down.

Now my idea is to buy a simple switch from radio shack and connect it to my Antenna lead coming off my head unit. Then mount it on my dash somewhere. Now the switchis a Single Pull Single Throw. Will this work. I figure it will save me 10 bucks instead of going to MA. Thanks guys. O yeah which wire is the antenna one?

PS
The switch is a little red button one so it will look cool :-) I'm gonna tell my friends it is for the nitro. hahah

That would work perfectly.
Just don't go drilling; you never know when you don't want that switch there anymore, and the price of replacement panels are outrageous. Trust me; I had to spend $100 because a previous owner wanted a hole in my shifter plate.
As for which wire is which, it looks like you have an aftermarket radio in the vette (CD in a '84?). It's no telling - look at the diagram that came with your head unit.

You could put the button in the ashtray.

I would go ahead and drill out a hole and mount the switch in your power seat control tub. You should get one of the covers for this anyways so you dont have to look at all the switches there all the time. I have a cover and it definately helps the interior appearence alot!!

Pink is the antenna wire in the car. On new head units, the blue with white stripe wire is typically the one you connect to the pink antenna lead.

Scorp,
I've got a '95 Coupe with a CD and want to do the same. Is there a location where this wire (blue with white stripe on a '95...or pink on a '95), is easily accessable? Like close to the bottom of the dash or anywhere else that I don't have to disassesmble the dash?
I appreciate any help you can afford me on this answer.
I also think it's awesome of you for all the help and advise you share with those here at the CorvetteForum. It's a great public service you perform.
Thanks and have a Happy Holiday Season. Rick Malecki
