Default price gouging

It seems to me when you own a corvette or a harley or a boat for that matter.
when ever you get any type of service it seems like everyone want to screw you and charge higher prices because its a corvette
case in point I had a slow leak on my right rear tire
I went to a NTB near my house to have it patched So they take the car in the shop they pull the wheel find a nail and fix it with a patch all of about 10 minuets. I have after market wheels no run flats no low tire warning just a tire and rim.
the guy starts to ring me up.
I see on the register its $56.00
I say what the @&$^&*^!(*&#
he say oh yes thats because its a high performance tire and we used a high performance patch.
I flip out
I just retired from the federal government where I was a mechanic for over 28 years I know there is no such thing as a high performance tire patch a patch is a patch no matter if it goes into a caviler a mustang or a corvette
I go nuts telling him I have been coming here from the day this place opened to get tires and get tires mounted and I will never come here again he just kind of blows me off I go to the manager and try to nicely explain there is no such thing as a HP patch its just a patch.
we go back and forth for a while he finally drops it down to $28.00
I understand they are there to make money and I will be more then happy to pay for time and parts but come on...
But I have ran into this type thing before with corvettes these places thing your a total idiot .
anyone else run into this type thing or is it only me?

Thats what I used to do for a living but tires I could not do.
No tire machine no balancer.
So in cases like that I have no choice.
The only other thing I wont do is oil changes.
Its to much of a hassle getting rid of the old oil and the filter I would much rather pay to get it done and they also grease it check all the fluid levels and for the few bucks you save doing it your self to me its just not worth the effort.

You got screwed! I just got a patch a local tire shop for a 295 35 18" put on a "high speed patch" $15. normal charge and that is to dismount and remount etc etc. I say $10-15 bucks should be the max on this type job.

High performace patch...Good Grief...if you patch a high performance tire it voids the speed rating of the tire

I had 2 nails in my back tire last month and it cost $20 for both patches.

Yeah it happens everywhere, take it someplace to have work done and they always want to do far more than is needed and if they can't do far more than is needed they still try to charge you far more than is needed.

$5 for a patch I got one time on the "high performance tire", sounds like someone was trying to stick you pretty good.

My wife makes me hide my vette if she is getting a tradesman in for a quote to get something done around the house.

She says if they see a vette in the driveway they give her a higher quote

Got my tire patched for free at Discount Tire . However while I didn't know I had LTPWS sensors on my wheels they broke the sensor while taking the tire off the rim . You just about can't find the sensors and though they intended on replacing the sensor, I decided to let it go since I never intend on using Zero Run Tires.

For something like $15 at Walmart you can buy a tire repair kit for a motorcycle. It comes with a half dozen patches, a couple tools and some glue. I have used the kit several times to repair damage from screws and nails without taking the tire off of the car. I carry the repair kit in the car at all times along with a bicycle pump. It is not an ideal repair for a high speed tire but it sure beats the puny spare.

At least they fixed it. I have Goodyear tires on my car, bought by the previous owner. When I picked up a nail in the front tire, I when to the local Goodyear dealer and asked if they would fix it; I was told yeah, no problem. When the guy saw it was a Corvette, he came back and told me they were too busy right now to do it, and suggested I go down the street (I was the only customer in the store). I did, and have probability spent $2000.00 dollars there that the Goodyear place would have had it they had only fixed my flat.

Default Good for you !!!

If more people were like you and raised a little _ _ _ _ we may all benefit from some reasonablness.
Unfortunately a lot of people driving European and Asian sports cars are paying the price because they have no basic automotive Knowledge.

Default Its the warranty and the insurance for vette repairs

You get charged extra for the high performance deal because they expect more warranty cost (you will be back complaining vs the Chevy Cavalier secretary car) and the insurance when the patch leaks, you run the tire too long and stick the car in the guardrail. Call your lawyer and try and get them for doing a faulty repair patch, once again the cavalier secretary is much less risk!
