I hope you don't mind that this first time Grandpa to be shares this with you.
I must be Freakin crazy but I taught my pregnant daughter how to drive a stick this morning, in my recently acquired 91 vert 6 spd.
In preparation for this lesson I just popped 5 or 6 Xanax.
Long story short, she is a Nanny and after the baby arrives she will need to use her employer's car that has a manual trans. Her car won't have enough room for new baby Haley Lynn and the two nanny kids.
When she first asked me to teach her I said absolutely not but then I reminded myself that it was her barn that she let me store my new baby in when I first picked it up in December I said OK.
She actually did pretty well. We only had one grinding incident and then we were done.
I am home now resting comfortably . After the 4 Valiums the numbness in my legs and twitching in my left eye are beginning to go away. I should be OK in a day or two.
Funny, my daughter didn't even try to learn the stick in my little p/u, first time we tried was the last. Ohhh, now she wants learn to drive the vette. Sorry sweety, she had her chance. Her younger brother wanted to learn the little p/u and now I don't have a problem letting him drive the vette ( When I'm with him ). Good Daddy.
i learned from my dad in a crap suzuki deer lease vehicle and have thanked him since.
not great at rowing but once i get another manual to practice i can become 'decent'
My Dad taught me the fundimentals of "flat shifting" theory. I had to buy and use my own car for a practical application.
For those who are unaware....
Flat shifting is accelerating to redline with your foot planted firmly on the floor. While holding the accerator down slap the clutch quickly in and out, shift into second gear and control the sudden jerk to the right.
P.S. DON'T miss the shift. it'll cost you more than lost E.T.
