CLAY or ALI SHUFFLE ??

water spots, please chime in. I'll start by admitting, this is my first time using CLAY. What's the correct way to use this stuff?
I followed the directions to a "T" on the "SMOOTH SURFACE Clay Kit" by Meguiar's. I found the clay very hard to "wipe or slide across the hood of my "94. Most of the time, it adhered to the surface. Suddenly, it began to roll-up like dough. I almost wanted to make some biscuits! Oh yeah, the waterspots are still there. These water spots have been pretty-well burnt in
the surface for at least 3 to 4 years. Please Help. THANKS ALL.

Most of the kit's come with a spray bottle, like a detailer spray.
Just keep the surface of the car wet as you run the clay bar around.
Do one small section at a time, and buff with a micro fiber cloth as you go.
It works
Wash the car, rinse it, and then spray Quick Detailer on it. Use a substantial amount. Put the clay bar down flat, and rub it over the paint lightly. If you press hard, you can marr the paint. The "grit" you may feel is the contaminants. Continue to go over the same area until the bar easily glides over the paint. Then dry the area with a soft/plush microfiber cloth.
The only way to get the spots out effectively is to use a polish or compound. I'd recommend getting a professional Detailer to do it, as it's more effective and safer.
This is a good visual.
