I am having my '84 repainted in a couple of weeks due to an accident. I will be replacing the front bumper myself to save $$. What thickness of aluminum stock did you use to remove the flex? Do you think it would work on the rear too?
I saw Jons Website some time back and really liked what he did..I had a similiar idea once and then when I seen his I said Bingo, thats what I need to do!I cant rem the thickness he used so Ill wait for his reply as well.
:)
If youre using a new bumper cover,I dont think you would need to reinforce it with anything, but if its a used one,it could probably benefit.
The back bumper,I cant see anyplace to put something in there.
I have both bumpers off the car now and the shape of the rear bumper doesnt seem to have any good places for extra sheet panels.
However, never say never, maybe youll come up with something I wouldnt see.
:)
You could use anything between 1/4 to 3/8ths. As mentioned below, I don't really think anything can be done with the rear short of reinforcing it with a layer of fiberglass mat and epoxy. If you need anymore help e mail me and I'll detail what I did.
