Default 91 vert won't release key.

Boy, sure getting to hate corvettes. My 91 wouldn't release the key a month or 2 back. I put the battery on the charger and it eventually let it go. Today I started the car and moved it from the back of the house to the front, again it won't let me turn it off and remove the key. I put it on the charger again even though the battery had plenty of juice. The charger now reads 100% charged, and the *%$%((&#@ thing won't let go of the #$^$$@ key. Any ideas? I'm so discouraged with my first corvette I just want to light it up and stand back and throw bottles at it while it burns. Never seen a car with so many security devices to keep the owner from ever driving it.

Will the key not come out once the switch is in the Off position or will it not switch into the Off position??

If it will not switch to the Off position, replace the lock & switch mechanism and key.

Try jiggling the steering wheel and the shifter in "P" position a little while trying to rotate the key.

Unless one of the interlocks is messed up I'd say you need to install a new lock tumbler assy.

Once you get past the damn air bag assembly, installing a new lock really isn't a big deal.

I can't help much with that replacement as my '88 has the tele-wheel and no air bag.

Sounds to me like the lock cylinder is bad and needs to be replaced, same thing happened on my 91, replaced it, end of problem.

Default the key issue

We had a similar problem with our 95. You had to make sure the shift lever was fully in the Park position and the shift **** had popped up.

My wife discovered this problem after picking up the car in Port Angeles, it was shipped from Pennsylvania, and driving onto the ferry. She shut the car off and couldn't get the key out. She had to phone the fellow we bought the car from in PA to find out what to do.

Good luck. Hope you learn to love your car.
