Instead of buying a complete Y-pipe, I just need the small part,(90 degree bend part) that attaches from the exhaust manifold to the front of the pre-cat. I need both left and right sides. I cant seem to find anything corvette related. Does anyone know of aftermarket exhaust pieces that would bolt up to the exhaust manifolds and then i could saw them to length and weld them to the pre-cats?
thats what i plan on doing,(getting rid of the pre-cats)But instead of spending $200 on the y-pipe, my friend suggested just sawing out the pre cats and welding some pipe.
Maybe if i knew the diameter of the pipe that comes off the exhaust manifold to the pre cat, it would be easier.
If you want a really slick job done, i.e. 2 1/2" SS mandrel bent front Y, take it to Denny at Mufflex. His shop is located just East of Trenton, NJ, link on my site.
His guys did a custom front Y for around the price of just the pre-made unit and installed a hi-flow main cat along with custom fitting my TPIS cat-back setup. They are real experts and do a great job for a good price.
If you just cut out the pre-cats and leave those waffle bends in the OEM pipe flow will still be restricted. Measure the inside pipe dia at one of those "waffles" and see just how much smaller is the effective pipe diameter.
