This is 93 Ruby Red vette, 57k miles on it, my climate control buttons acting up. On off have to press auto many times to get it going. Once on everything is fine. Try to turn it off have push button many times finally goes off. Whats up, need to clean, remove unit? contacts, or can I re-set my diconnecting battery for a few minutes. Please help
Every once in awhile when a press a button it may take up to a minute to change to the mode I want. This is on my 88 which is different than yours. On my long list to replace.
I am not sure about the 93' but I just tore down the climate control module for my 87'.
You need to take your time when you dissassemble the control/display head. The little plastic pins holding the unit together also hold the rubber push buttons in place. If you break them, you will need to install new pins. I repair clocks so I have tools to do this.
The push buttons have conducts (looks like a carbon slug) which contact traces on a circuit board. The 87' climate module also has a circuit card inserted into control/display head with an edge connector. I first cleaned the connectors and re-soldered a few faulty solder joints. Once I had the connectors and solder problems repaired, I used an eraser to clean the swith button contacts. I am not sure which action actually fixed it, but it works fine now.
