I have come across a 94 with just over 7K miles on it, and would like to know what exactly would need to be done to maintain it and prevent any problems.
Make sure it is in good shape when you buy it, change the oil and coolant, you should be good to go. Most of the posts here assume that someone just bought a $45,000 car, and let it sit with no maintenance, I have found that most ultra low milers have been pampered, with annual oil changes, etc..Buy it and put a few miles on it. My '96 had 7500 miles when I bought it about a year ago, was and still is like a new car, only now it has 12,000 miles. Pay a little more, get a pristine Corvette.
If it has the original tires, I wouldn't plan on driving on them.
if its just been sitting I wouldn't be to quick to jump on it find out what has been going on with the car if it hasn't been driven or started and you want to drive it you better have some deep pockets.
Every car is different. As stated above, I would change all of the fluids. Not because of the low miles, but just so you have a point of referance as to when they were last changed. Also, ask to see the cars service records, a car that old w/ that few miles should have them.
Were did you find this car?
My 85 has 28K on it, when I bought it in March it hadn't been moved much in the past four years. After putting a few hundred miles on it I had to torque down a few things and replace a few gaskets, all of which didn't leak until I strated putting some miles on it. Other than a main seal, which at this point is still holding up, I haven't run into any major problems. But, 28K on a 23 year old car is not nearly as little use as just 7 on a 12 year old car, despite the difference in years.
If it has the original tires, I wouldn't plan on driving on them.
I 'd also ask the owner how he drove it...did he park it in September and just let it sit until May, how did he store it, etc. Just short (100 miles) trips or just a run to the local 7-11? Those answers may determine if you have a real find or not, at least give you an idea of what else to think about. Good luck.
