Ok I just changed my injectors, plugs, wires, dist cap & rotor, new thermostat, & bypassed the throttle body, car started right up runs fine except its over heating, I’m thinking it’s the new thermostat. Suggestions welcome. Was to hot to pull the thermostat tonight I’ll do that tomorrow see how it dose.
Put the thermostat in a pot of water with a thermometer and see where it opens. Try putting the old thermostat in and see what the temp is. Hold the fan blade and blast water from a garden hose backwards through the radiator to clean out debris. A better way is to remove the top cover and vacuum out debris, I'll bet there is some.
You can "burp" the car by lifting the front end and loosening the bleeder on the passenger side under the TB. You can also drill a small hole in the flat flange area of the thermostat to help with getting the air out. It gets trapped there and does not let the thermostat open at the right coolant temp. Burp it first and try a couple of heat cycles then burp it again it should be good.
Same thing happened to me after a tstat install. Instead of burping the system, you can take the thermostat out and drill a couple of 1/8" holes in the flange. No more air will ever be trapped in your system.
Floridamale how did you exactly do that ( vent trapped air ) I'm having the same issue.
Your 96 has one bleeder screw on the t/stat housing. Wrap a rag around it and with engine running open it till just coolant comes out (won't take much), run it up to op temp so the t/stat opens and repeat.
Top off the coolant and you are good to go.
