Oh yea, at 18 yrs old I have that mental "To Do list " bassed on the age of all the under-car items......b-joints this winter...and ofcourse there is the "while we have this apart" rule...... it always seems to get out of hand very quickly... ......I just keep telling myself..."but it's sooooo much fun to drive after she's fixed up!"

Well said Tom. I replaced my radiator yesterday and installed new Bosch fuel injectors. Will soon do new tie rod ends and hubs soon. I believe I will also need a throw out bearing soon. Oh well always something...

Still my Favorite, love the looks of the C3 and the comfort of the C5, but when it comes to just fun to drive I'll take the C4 any day

My car is 21 years old with 57k miles and it goes through rubber related items because of age. Reliability and performance are like they were back in 1987. Just need a new radio surround, seat covers and about $500 in weatherstrip for the looks to be as they were in 1987.

These are great cars, they are getting a little older, but still offer a nice blend of performance, looks and reliability for the money.

It's a love / hate thing. I've concluded my Corvette is not practical for a 40 mile daily commute (each way), and as I already have one toy car I don't really have enough room for a second car that isn't a dedicated commuting machine. But I don't expect to miss any other car I've ever sold like I expect to miss this one when it's gone. It's the wrong car for what I'm doing with it, but there aren't many "mistakes" I've made that I've had so much fun making. If I could afford to replace it with a low mileage later C4 or C5 I would, but that's not in the budget.

This is a good thread. About 82% of voters cars don't work properly, but they are being fixed!

Another 15% don't actually drive theirs (because they might break)

and the rest of us are like "why the hell did we buy these stupid things!??"

It is in the mail... Now go mod your car...

This poll is going about the way I expected it to. These cars were never perfect, even when new. They are however lovable! Sometimes I go out to the garage and oooh and aaah over the looks of her. Then I realize that I have another problem and I cannot drive it to the car show or to the mountains for the weekend. Aww shoot! One day she will be 100% at least for a few days!

Sure! i'm in the process of ripping out the stock sound system right now, but if you send me a Hotcam I'll put that in too

I don't think these old cars will ever be perfect, or in a state of 'finished modding' but it's damn fun getting there, or just thinking about it

I can't bring myself to call my C4 a 'her'. I have found that when it's covered, I drive my Jeep GC more.

My '93 has a little over 80,500 miles on it. I've had the car almost two years with no problems and love driving it (once or twice a week).

My 95 has 97,000 miles. I drive it hard, I take her to shows and I fix and install mods to it myself. I had no problems and it has enough power to drive, race, take curves fast and to get kudos.

Why is it that the C5 dorks always write crap about C4s in the off topic forum? Is that a superiority complex? One was complaining about waving to C4s, isn't waving really optional? Bunch of "small cats".

My "96 has over 120k and is a great car as we all know. Here's my question. Why do we do so much DIY. I just got done pulling the starter and it was a pita. I still have to either try to rebuild myself or have done. I like to save money and I like to solve problems. But I'm by no means a very good mechanic. All my old friends in Flint, Mi. would never belive that the guy that was only good for handing over tools is now wrenching my own car. I've got a decent guy that works on my cars when I can't. He said he'd R&R my starter for $90.00 plus parts. Most of us have the extra money and while I was fighting with my starter I kept thinking paying the $90.00 was a lot easier and smarter. My wife and kids would and do spend $90.00 without a blink of the eye. So I can't convince myself it's the money. It must be the problem solving.

Default A whole Lotta Love!!

Man I never expected this high a rating! From all the bitching, mine included, it was looking grim for these old C4's. I expected an approval rating around 60%. I am surprised. Currently a 95.38% "Love Rating". 95% is an A, even in the Ivy League! This is cool.

If I had a lift at home I would have a 383 long time ago...

The only stopping me for installing a hot cam, roller lifters/rockers and a port and polish in the heads is that the engine already have 97,000 miles and I think a complete overhaul should be done if I upgrade those components. Would love to drop the entire drivetrain (engine, tranny and axle) get it rebuilt, paint and put it back together and a final $6,000-$10,000 super paint job

Default love-hate

I love this car. great mileage, great lines, enuff power to dazzle the heartiest skeptic, goes around corners that would cause other cars to slide off the road.
I hate the fact that everything on the car needs undoing the bean counter cheapening.
I love the fact that if it's right, it runs for a looooooong time. I love the car for the road feel, the noise, the stiff suspension. Even if you are not going fast it follows every bump, indention, curve of the road....like a true road car. Like a guy's hands on a hot babe, every curve.......
I love the fact that when somethin's not right, I can think it through, and come up with a fix, and it is a complex car.
I love the fact that I have personalized it, changed the seats, the wheels, the exhaust, the injection, the heads, the sway bars, shocks, the inside of the doors, cooling, etc.
I got this car when it was a neglected 12 year old. I've had it 11 years. It has 137,000 miles on it, and It only left me stranded once, and if I'd been patient, it would have started when it cooled off.
I constantly get people commenting on how great it looks, and there are the ones that confuse it with a newer version of corvette, but don't believe it is 23 years old. It's an 86e made in Sept. 85.
I have often gone out to lock up the garage doors for the night and there it sits next to my C5, and it looks better, sleeker, slimmer, racier, and more ominous. The C5 rides and handles more like a fast cadillac. The C4 has also brought me through more experiences throughout the years that I can remember.
The brakes aren't the best, the alternator fails due to the heat, the A/C has a hard time keeping up when it's 115* outside, and the ride is harsh. The interior is plasticky and it creaks and groans when the car is pushed to the limit.
Other than that, here it is, every work day, rumbling it's way on the freeway to the place where I work, out driving 99% of all the other cars and trucks on the freeway and city streets.
And when I park it next to the Jet, it's hard to figure out which is the most aerodynamic of the two. It's easy to see which goes faster, but hard to determine which I enjoy more. I have to work on both, so it's not like one gets repaired, and the other gets polished.
