Honeymoon Phase?

Oh yea, at 18 yrs old I have that mental "To Do list " bassed on the age of all the under-car items......b-joints this winter...and ofcourse there is the "while we have this apart" rule...... it always seems to get out of hand very quickly...
......I just keep telling myself..."but it's sooooo much fun to drive after she's fixed up!"

These are great cars, they are getting a little older, but still offer a nice blend of performance, looks and reliability for the money.
Another 15% don't actually drive theirs (because they might break)
and the rest of us are like "why the hell did we buy these stupid things!??"

This poll is going about the way I expected it to. These cars were never perfect, even when new. They are however lovable! Sometimes I go out to the garage and oooh and aaah over the looks of her. Then I realize that I have another problem and I cannot drive it to the car show or to the mountains for the weekend. Aww shoot! One day she will be 100% at least for a few days!

I don't think these old cars will ever be perfect, or in a state of 'finished modding' but it's damn fun getting there, or just thinking about it

Why is it that the C5 dorks always write crap about C4s in the off topic forum? Is that a superiority complex? One was complaining about waving to C4s, isn't waving really optional? Bunch of "small cats".

Love working in it!!!

I Even got the spare cleaned

All done in my garage!!

The only stopping me for installing a hot cam, roller lifters/rockers and a port and polish in the heads is that the engine already have 97,000 miles and I think a complete overhaul should be done if I upgrade those components. Would love to drop the entire drivetrain (engine, tranny and axle) get it rebuilt, paint and put it back together and a final $6,000-$10,000 super paint job

I hate the fact that everything on the car needs undoing the bean counter cheapening.
I love the fact that if it's right, it runs for a looooooong time. I love the car for the road feel, the noise, the stiff suspension. Even if you are not going fast it follows every bump, indention, curve of the road....like a true road car. Like a guy's hands on a hot babe, every curve.......
I love the fact that when somethin's not right, I can think it through, and come up with a fix, and it is a complex car.
I love the fact that I have personalized it, changed the seats, the wheels, the exhaust, the injection, the heads, the sway bars, shocks, the inside of the doors, cooling, etc.
I got this car when it was a neglected 12 year old. I've had it 11 years. It has 137,000 miles on it, and It only left me stranded once, and if I'd been patient, it would have started when it cooled off.
I constantly get people commenting on how great it looks, and there are the ones that confuse it with a newer version of corvette, but don't believe it is 23 years old. It's an 86e made in Sept. 85.
I have often gone out to lock up the garage doors for the night and there it sits next to my C5, and it looks better, sleeker, slimmer, racier, and more ominous. The C5 rides and handles more like a fast cadillac. The C4 has also brought me through more experiences throughout the years that I can remember.
The brakes aren't the best, the alternator fails due to the heat, the A/C has a hard time keeping up when it's 115* outside, and the ride is harsh. The interior is plasticky and it creaks and groans when the car is pushed to the limit.
Other than that, here it is, every work day, rumbling it's way on the freeway to the place where I work, out driving 99% of all the other cars and trucks on the freeway and city streets.
And when I park it next to the Jet, it's hard to figure out which is the most aerodynamic of the two. It's easy to see which goes faster, but hard to determine which I enjoy more. I have to work on both, so it's not like one gets repaired, and the other gets polished.

Great job!
