Default Stuck Intake Bolts?

Im in the process of putting an egr blockoff plate on my '88 C4 and 3 of the torx bolts on the plenum and runners got stripped out. Anyone have any ideas on how to get them out?-are there any bolt-out tools specifically for torx bits? Also I read that blocking off the egr valve will raise engine combustion temps and could cause detonation?-anyone have any experiance/ input on what to do to prevent this?

Sometimes you can use a large pair of Vice Grips to clamp on the outside and turn them out, if you have room. Ive also heard of some using a dremel tool with a wheel and cutting a slot in the head to use a large screwdriver to get it out . Using either method you may have to use heat to brake it loose, a torch works wonders sometimes. Good Luck. WW

Try getting a screw driver blade or dental probe (i.e. anything) behind the bolt head to pry out on it and then back it out with the Torx bit.

To increase economy and reduce emissions, 30 + years ago they leaned the air fuel mixture. This increases the likely hood of pre-ignition...the fuel explodes in the cylinder instead of burns. The egr system is there to take the edge off the flame so to speak so the fuel doesn't explode in the cylinder. To remove the egr system and not have pre-ignition under certain circumstances, one or more of the following often times has to be done. Run a higher octane fuel, increase the air fuel mixture (make richer), retard the timing. Also be mindful of what impact these changes may have on the exhausts temps due to the air pump, and the catalytic converters.

This is where the welder comes in handy. Take a piece of round stock and weld it to the head. Vise grip tend to slip on the round head and this won't.

So I was on Sears website and apparently they have a tool that removes damaged screws and says it will work on torx.
