I know you can't use water to clean the engine in my 94. So anyone have some pointers on cleaning and detailing the engine area? Also some ideas on cleaning/polishing the alternator and other metal/aluminum engine parts? Thanks in advance!

You could wash the engine area if you are extremely carefull not to get any water near the Optispark (behind the water pump). Spray cleaner on the areas that need it, brush with an oled painbursh and then rinse with water flowing from a hose - no nozzle. For the rest of the areas it's some cleaner and rags. I used 00 steel wool to polish up all aluminum bits. There are lots of products available to dress the plastic and rubber parts.

Being the lazy bastard that i am, just cleand my engine compartment with some spray on degreaser and hosed it off. As stated above, don't spray the opti. Just use a little common sense.

It took about 10 minutes.

Thanks for the info guys!
mcnulty, did you paint your rail covers or buy them? I like the look and it would go well with my red exterior and some interior items I am changing to red.

Don't you have to keep degreaser from the front spring? I was told it would eat thru the gel coat and ruin it? Any truth to that?
