Default NGK Spark Plugs

Where can I buy NGK Iridium spark plugs on the Internet for my 87. I have looked all around town and can't find them. Need a couple of good sites to order them from. Do they make them for the 87 with Aluminum Heads?

The regular NGK V-Power plugs will do fine in your engine (I run the NGK TR55's in my '93 LT1) unless you just want to spend the extra money.

What's the difference in performance from the Iridium and the NGK Power Plug V? Does one last longer, or is their a performance difference? I want the best bang for the buck, but I don't want to lose any performance.

I don't know much about the iridium plugs, but I do know one of the advantages of platinum plugs is that they last longer than regular plugs. Copper is a better conductor than platinum. Keep in mind that a spark plug's sole responsibility is to create an arc to ignite the fuel and air mixture. A lot of "performance" plugs are just gimmicks IMO and a waste of money. I wouldn't look to plugs to increase performance. Mechanical mods will. I'm sure someone else will chime in, but the ultimate decision is yours. Ask around to see if anyone is running the plugs you descibed and see if they noticed any difference in the way their car runs. Enjoy!

When you say copper, you are talking about the internal section of the spark plug. There is an air-gap inside the ceramic of the spark plug body. The iridium or platnum is the center electrode. A spark plug goes bad when the shoulder of the electrode gets rounded off. Special metals are needed to prevent erroding of the electrode from arcing. Resistor plugs are needed in order for the coil to saturate. Basically a resistor plug has an air-gap inside the ceramic. A plug can go bad internally because of carbon centers. Copper is a better internal conductor but really needs that air gap resistance to prevent voltage loss through gap conduction caused by combustion chamber environment. The wire electrode plugs have been around for many years in the racing World. Many gimmics have fowled the market but Platnum wire plugs are not a gimmic.

I've used standard Autolite plugs for 45 years, never a problem.
Thats in 425 hp plus engines with high compression, 12.1.
I agree those fancy plugs are gimmicks. Any plug out there will go 100K.

The lead in the gasoline was what was killing the plug life.

H.P! I'm running the NGK TR-55's too and love them. Before, I had AutoLite Platinum plugs and I liked them, too. The main advantage of platinum over copper is that they last longer, so you have to change them out less often.

Swapping out the plugs and wires in these LT-X engines is a pain in the butt and not a job many of us relish having to do at even the reccommended service intervals.

Iridium plugs have a much narrower electrode. And they will last quite a long time (generally longer than platinum). Do you have Advance Auto Parts in your area? They carry NGK Iridiums by me, though I had to order the particular ones my car needed.

Otherwise, online, places like Summit, Jegs, etc would probably have them.

Ive always used the TR 55 V-Power plugs for my LT1. No complaints. Dont get sucked into the ads about a plug that gives you a faster burn or hotter burn, its all hype. Unless you have a transplant in your vette or pushing over 400HP they might help. Good luck.

Isn't it amazing when you mention iridium plugs this ad for them pops up at the bottom of the page!!!How do they do that? Anyway it's all bull**** and snake oil and parting you from your hard earned cash.Get the recommended OEM plugs from NAPA for $24 and spend what you save on a turbonator or airfoil. You will experience the same giddy performance enhancement that the iridium, platinum, splitfire,et al would have given you.
